Anyone else go back and forth between Nikon and Canon? I'm returning to Canon after several months with the Nikon format. I know Av and Tv and the dials are different, but am trying to remember (no memory card or lens yet) the differences between the two. I've got a used 5D and it seems like a giant compared to my old D80. Is it bigger than the 30D too? Feels like a monster to me right now...

Yup the 5D is a bit bigger than the 30D.

Welcome to 5D Land!

Thanks! Hope I can do it justice. It was always sort of a pipe dream of mine to have one. As so many of you know, I had my share of lenses, lol. We'll see how I do with the full frame. Seems to be an oldy, but a goodie.

Welcome back to Canon land. :) The 5D is a great camera.

Not sure why, but call me JJ.

Why the swap back and forth? what is the motivation for that? what aspect of the past cameras has pulled you toward, and then ultimately pulled you away from the camera of the moment?

I was working for a company in NC that used Nikon D80s for their shoots. I wanted that format - as it was my first photography job - so that it would feel like second nature to me before doing shoots - it ultimately came in very handy as I was always the one chosen to do a shoot because I had the camera already. Now we're back in Mass. and the price of a used 5D was doable (had to re-locate due to my husband's job, which sort of sucked).

A quest is a journey to a goal.... I remember a couple of the chapters from your quest; Mum2J&M finds the perfect lens!

Just thought maybe we were on to the sequel: Mum2J&M finds the perfect body.

Chapter 1, Canon...
Chapter 2, Nikon...
Chapter 3, 5D
Chapter 4, what will it be???

All in fun of course... Hope you find the 5D to your licking!

Reasonable rationale to the switch. I thought that you were on the 'quest' in search of the Holy Grail! :)

Reading the manual and one day of heavy shooting should get you back into Canon's control system/dials/features.

5D is a nice body indeed. Congrats.

Thanks guys. I've had enough gear to know there is no such thing as the Holy Grail! LOL. I think I enjoy switching my gear around almost as much as I enjoy shooting. There's always a learning experience to be had. Never intended to be a PITA about it. Apologies if I did...
