What am I doing wrong (Quick Mask Q)?

Right I think I have accidentally changed a setting somewhere.

When in CS3 if I press the wee quick mask icon [o] and paint over something the painted bit turns red. Thats fine. If I then click it again the whole picture is selected as opposed to the inverse of the painted bit.

Before if I clicked it a 2nd time the bit not painted red would be selected

Does that make sense?

What have I done wrong?

What is the opacity of your brush set at when you are quickmasking...It has to be over 50 percent or it will not show it as marching ants.

Neil, just double-click your Quick Mask icon, and choose "Selected Areas" instead of "Masked Areas".

You can also change the colour and opacity of your mask here. I have mine green instead of red.

Thanks guys, I asked the same question on a few boards and my problem was that my palette wasn't B&W it was 50% grey and white but since I have changed it it is all fine.
