My canon recently quit turning on. I called got an estimate of around $140.00usd until Canon received camera to trouble shoot since it was out of warrenty. I like to tinker with electronics the smaller the better. There is a very small switch at the battery door that if bumped ever so slightly will break. This seems to be my problem. I have already replaced the camera with a slightly inferior brand, so I am going to attempt to replace the switch or bypass it all together since warrenty is no longer an issue. I will let you know how things go.

The switch is a "normally open" switch which is closed (turned on) when the battery compartment is closed. It shuts off the camera when the battery compartment is opened.
My (now sold) G7 had a power supply go bad, which was fixed under warranty.

Even more common on the G7 are two internal screws that fallout and cause a short which leave the G7 with no power. It's a shame because that's such a great camera otherwise. If you have a power problem on a Powershot G7, they have a deal at: www.camerasandparts.com (external link) where they resolve the power problem, totally service up the camera, plus they do the correction for the G7 so this problem never comes back again. All of that with the return shipping included is $89 that's a pretty toughdeal to beat and they just specialize in the Canons. They're excellent if you need to get this fixed, that would be the place I'd go for help on this one.
