If two drives are tied together as a JBOD, one can fail and you can still recover the data from the good drive.

But, of course, the data from the failed disc is lost. The next time I increase my storage (looks like it will have to be sooner than later) I think I would like RAID 5. But, one needs at least 3 drives to do it. 3 of the drives that are on special at $89 each and arraigned as RAID 5 would give one 2TB of storage and protection against data loss if a drive fails. Of course, as you said, it increases the odds of failure but one would have protection from failure. 2TB would last me a lifetime, seems I remember saying something like that when I got 320GB that is getting close to being full.

That's a pretty good deal. I have the previously mentioned WD Mybook 500GB and it's been really good so far. I use it on an eSATA connection with SyncToy (free from microsoft, and actually GOOD) to mirror the 500GB external with the 500GB "Media Only" drive in my Dell that I use exclusively for Photos/Videos and a few things that I don't need to lose like scans of tax documents and such. It makes me feel a lot better that I have 2 copies of my important files in case of HDD failure.

IMO, 1 TB is getting too large for USB transfer. You guys should try eSATA if at all possible. It's soooooo much nicer when transferring large files/folders.

I have a Fantom 1TB. but I mixed up the AC adapter. Would you tell me
what's the power adapter's DC output? What's the brand of the adapter's name? Could you send me a picture of the adapter?
My email: ianwu2001@yahoo.com (external link)

Thank you.:o

I use mine as an internal and the enclosure is now separate from the adapter, but the enclosure says 12V/2A. IIRC, it's a small long brick type adapter.
