Haha yeah after reading POTN for a while my eyes hurt. I just hope something can be done to help them :), well, my right eye anyway. Left eye is fine but it is working overtime making up for the stupid right one.

Thanks Tiff - have fun with them tests haha. Did they do well?

But with such high resolution of the 5D you should be able to crop in quite a bit and still have usable images. How else are you going to learn the abilities of the camera unless you use it?

5D cropped down to an APS-C size would be about 5+ MP. You do the math.

Love the new Avi. Jon! I totally saw that one coming though! :D

Well folks I had my yearly review today... and it looks like I'm "Meeting Expectations" but I might have "lost some focus" LOL I suppose that means they want me doing more work and less POTN :( I suppose I'll take the hint. but I'll still be checking in here when I can.

Says the gentleman with the L's that never posts pictures. Seriously, I was melting on the carpet and had limited time before Ian got pissy. They turned out nice so that's all I care about.

True, but I still use them, even if it's not very often.

I know you know so i know you know.

Anyone know where i can find proffesional camcorder reviews, OTHER THAN CNET O.O

Google search. Any ideas which camcorder you want? For general use and starting out I'd recommend a consumer HD camcorder. If you are getting into serious videography a prosumer camcorder might be better (like a Canon XH-A1 or Sony FX-1). Older models like Canon GL-2 are a lot less expensive but supposedly are great for learning.

Actually, for real small stuff the XTi will do better than the 5D especially if you get down to the 100mm 1:1 range because of the XTis higher pixel density. At 1:1 the XTi will put more pixels on the snowflake giving you more resolution.. But you got a great point about using the camera though. Tiff, ya gotta get out there and get use to the thing. It does shoot a little differently.

Is that because of the crop censor?
Ha, at least I was right about one thing, now Tiff, go shooting

I hate math so I'll just take your word for it. How about not cropping but enlarging to poster size?

Same magnification, just over a larger area, so there'd be a whole lot of black pillowcase around the same sized snowflake. Ya wanna shoot macro, same as ya wanna deep dive, ya gotta do at least some math, even if only to find out what you're going to get, or how long to decompress the nth dive of the day to z ft.

Same magnification, just over a larger area, ..

Of course that's only when shooting at the maximum magnification of 1:1 in the case of the 100mm. If the object is larger that the size of the APC sensor, say the size of the 5D sensor, then the full 12mp is going to be put on the object. But seeing that it was a snowflake, I'm gonna take a guess that it was not 24mm by 36mm. Thats one huge snowflake. :):)

Not sure why, but call me JJ.
I used to hate math but then I realised decimals have a point.

Ah, ok. I get what you're saying, but admittedly there is more math in diving ;) (even though it's easy math  )

Given that the XTi has 10 MP, the 5D only manages about 12% more resolution for a given subject size and at the same magnification. Unless the subject was larger than about 21x32, the XTi would still put more pixels on the subject all the way down to 1:1 on the 5D.

Not admittedly. Try calculating flash exposures, lighting ratios, magnifications, aperture changes at high magnifications . . .
