Given that the XTi has 10 MP, the 5D only manages about 12% more resolution for a given subject size and at the same magnification. Unless the subject was larger than about 21x32, the XTi would still put more pixels on the subject all the way down to 1:1 on the 5D.

At the same magnification, true, but if I'm shooting say a butterfly and it is 24 by 36 mm to fill the frame the 5D would have to be at 1:1, but as the object is larger than the sensor size of the XTi, one would have to shoot at a magnification something less than 1:1

Not sure why, but call me JJ.
I used to hate math but then I realised decimals have a point.

Long story short...I was correct in using the Xti but I need to get the 5D out and play more. (and kitten needs to give me his Ls)

yup. :)

Yeah - I said that. Didn't you see it? I even did the math to show at what subject size the 5D would start to have an advantage.

I use to be good at math, now unless it's adding the pins in Wii bowling, I'm struggling. :):)

Not admittedly. Try calculating flash exposures, lighting ratios, magnifications, aperture changes at high magnifications . . .

Hmm, what about breathing gas mixtures (Nitrox, Trimix, Heliox), MOD's, dive planning, deco calculations (and back-up calculations), gas switching (bottom gas to deco gas), surface intervals for repeditive dives... ;)

You might have been right but there is no way you're getting my lenses, whether I use them or not :p

When you start doing any of that, I might believe you . . .

Oh c'mon, that's not fair. I carry my camera bag with me everywhere. It's not my fault everything around here is boring :(

Well, I already use gas management in pre-dive planning as well as repeditive planning and I'll be in the next Nitrox class (each nitrox mix has a specific "max operating depth", or MOD, beyond which you get poisoned because the partial pressure of the oxygen [ppO2] is too high). I want to get into tech/rebreather diving, which is heavy with gas management, planning, deco, etc. As far as mixing, I always watch the folks at the dive shop, especially when they mix voodoo gas  My boss also wants me to become a dive con (and I want to eventually become an instructor) so I need to know how NOT to kill my students

Google search. Any ideas which camcorder you want? For general use and starting out I'd recommend a consumer HD camcorder. If you are getting into serious videography a prosumer camcorder might be better (like a Canon XH-A1 or Sony FX-1). Older models like Canon GL-2 are a lot less expensive but supposedly are great for learning.

im leaning towards a AG-DVX100B, Standard definition, but the best out there.

but if i wait some more ( :/ ) i can afford the AG-HVX200...

but thats some time away =(

Personally I wouldn't trust the panasonic. The GL2 is in relatively the same price range. What about the HDR-FX7, high def, $2k price tag, 3 cmos censors

ha! Canon's had a shady history with the tape decks, Panasonic actually offers all the pro features for a lesser price.

But i DO want a canon never the less, just dont want a lower end one.

o.o...if i go for the Gl2, i can buy the 5d mark 2 along with it.

what do you think?
