At least you got rid of the nose Tom! That was scary.

Scary, but di-stink-tive...you always knew when Tom was in the room. ;)

How else are you going to learn the abilities of the camera unless you use it?

Hello pot...

sevillafox wrote in post #7058212 (external link)
Says the gentleman with the L's that never posts pictures. Seriously, I was melting on the carpet and had limited time before Ian got pissy. They turned out nice so that's all I care about.

Agreed. With a small baby, your time was VERY limited...using what you know probably yielded cooler images than using what you needed to figure out a bit while shooting. I'm glad you had the sense to use what you felt was best for the situation.

gjl711 wrote in post #7058672 (external link)
Actually, for real small stuff the XTi will do better than the 5D especially if you get down to the 100mm 1:1 range because of the XTis higher pixel density. At 1:1 the XTi will put more pixels on the snowflake giving you more resolution.. But you got a great point about using the camera though. Tiff, ya gotta get out there and get use to the thing. It does shoot a little differently.

I'm sorry you're all sore and stuff. I agree, she does need to get out there and use it.

Well folks I had my yearly review today... and it looks like I'm "Meeting Expectations" but I might have "lost some focus" LOL I suppose that means they want me doing more work and less POTN I suppose I'll take the hint. but I'll still be checking in here when I can.

Well geez, seems they need to get some priorities straight. ;)

ssidiv3r wrote in post #7060038 (external link)
True, but I still use them, even if it's not very often.

I don't think I've seen more than about 3 photos from you the entire time I've been on this thread. You whine about your equipment more than anything.

Jon wrote in post #7060753 (external link)
Given that the XTi has 10 MP, the 5D only manages about 12% more resolution for a given subject size and at the same magnification. Unless the subject was larger than about 21x32, the XTi would still put more pixels on the subject all the way down to 1:1 on the 5D.

Not admittedly. Try calculating flash exposures, lighting ratios, magnifications, aperture changes at high magnifications . . .

I appreciate you guys (both Jo(h)ns explaining this stuff....I knew the concept but am still new enough not to have broken it down like that yet. I think (from what I have seen) that to truly understand the elements of photography, there's a heck of a lot of math involved. Things like light meters add to it, creative modes and such seem to take away from the complexity of it a little. I do know its not all just shooting away.

gjl711 wrote in post #7061574 (external link)
I use to be good at math, now unless it's adding the pins in Wii bowling, I'm struggling.

I don't Wii bowl, but I'm great at counting diapers/animal crackers/toys that I step on....feeling your pain though.

I'm reporting you for lens abuse Kitten!

ie: neglect. :)

Oh c'mon, that's not fair. I carry my camera bag with me everywhere. It's not my fault everything around here is boring :(

It is what you make of it, same as with your gear, frankly. I don't live THAT far away from your area, and there's cool stuff, cool people in both areas.

G'morning all...I'll have high ISO pics for you later today, if firefox will ever let me upload the dang things...it hasn't been cooperating this morning. Large building, poor lighting, cute kids and animals, no flash...I'm pretty pleased with how most of them turned out. Snaps, mostly, but fun memories!

Agh! This Friday's wedding canceled. They were washy about so many details until I pinned them down, and even then it took a week to get any answers... I finally realized SATURDAY NIGHT that they expected me to take TWO trips, 12 hours of driving total. When I quoted a measly extra $125 for travel expenses, I think that was the deal breaker. I wish I'd gotten a retainer, but the mother of the groom is a good friend... Lessons lessons... So my weekend is suddenly freed up, BUT I'm out a chunk of change I was expecting. It's seriously mostly a relief because there were so many unraveled details, and I SHOULD have done the paper work before now, but she's a good friend and I won't let it stand between us. Grr.

Lesson learned. Remember, there are no friends in business.

Losing the cash sucks but think of all the headache (and strain on the friendship) you've avoided.

Bah, that sounds frustrating all around. On the bright side, I'll bet the kiddos will be excited that you're home? Is there something nearish to you that a field trip could be in order?

That's what I've been thinking, just going, my little family, and doing something fun. There are a handful of things, I'm just irritated about being low on cash. My Dad just got laid off, so we're staying here a little longer until the $ situation is a little more income based, but in the long run, we actually will have more cash free since we're not paying a full mortgage as soon. I'm tempted to go to Vegas, but I don't think so...

Morning all!!! I am still so tired, I just can't seem to catch up on sleep. But I don't work today, and I am done with school by 11:15, so I will have some time to relax. :)

How is everyone?

ha! Canon's had a shady history with the tape decks, Panasonic actually offers all the pro features for a lesser price.

But i DO want a canon never the less, just dont want a lower end one.

o.o...if i go for the Gl2, i can buy the 5d mark 2 along with it.

what do you think?

Why not? I know some guys that are currently running a scuba forums and video magazine. They started out with a GL2 and are now using an HC1 and an FX1. Start small and work your way up.

If you're worried about the tape deck why not look into the Hard Disk Drive camcorders? 60gb of HD video shouldn't be too bad, but it's like an iPod. If something goes wrong, you lose everything so you just need to load the stuff onto your computer as soon as possible. Just another option.

Hello pot...

Hi, how you doing?

I don't think I've seen more than about 3 photos from you the entire time I've been on this thread. You whine about your equipment more than anything.

You never look for them, but honestly it has been quite some time since the last pic I posted. Mostly I think I was just put off because I'd have 100 views and MAYBE 2 comments

Yeah but you're in a cool boring area ;)

I'll try harder to get out shooting, especially now that I've got a camcorder too

It helps if you comment on other peoples' stuff too. If they know you they're more likely to reply.

And having a camcorder's going to make it harder, not easer, to shoot still. The two really don't want the same situations all that much.

Don't wish away the single life for being married all that quick. Enjoy the time you have to just yourself before you get married and everyone in your life makes demands on you and you run out of time to play.
