I cant complain. When the government starts cutting jobs then I will get worried. I think we'll pull through this. The company I work for on base is privately owned, not relying on stock holders, and have said we're doing "good". Only time will tell.

...Anything interesting near you to shoot? I have snow dusted fields right now and they're not that interesting imo.

Not much this time of year. Snow looks like snow wherever you go. We go have a couple of forect preserves nearby so I am looking forward to spring when the wildflowers and critters return.

I do to. We are doing similar things and though I dodged yet another layoff bullet, it was announced that there are no raises, no bonus, no contributions to pension, no matching to 401, no hiring, no nothing.

After two months o nthe job my husband missed layoffs by the skin of his teeth, he's still in work, but it was a tense day. I have one brother that's making nonsense pay 8 hours a week because his employer does that to everyone, they've got almost every employee on at those hours to cut back on benefits they have to pay for. My other brother has been looking I'd say around 30 hours a week, for almost 4 months, and still can't find something. Mind you he thinks he's above department stores, or anything that pays less than $20 an hour, so I think he could fins something if he were really desperate, but he's wracking up a credit bill in the meantime. He just started school, so that cuts back on the possible hours, and possibilities anyway. My Dad just got laid off. He's working until they close out the building they're in in a few weeks. He didn't get the two jobs with the core company that he was a shoe in for. So we don't know what 's going to happen, a little pay cut at the VERY least. We're living with them for the time being, and the plan was to hopefully be out by March, or July at the latest. Unless a miracle job opens for my Dad, it's VERY possible we may need to stay here to help out with the income, and possibly try and take over most of the bills instead of saving for our house. This all sure stinks, but my family has never been closer, I don't think I'd trade that for a cushier budget.

We have been helping out some of our family as well. My cuz has been out of work for almost a year and now my BIL is sitting in pins and needles as his place goes through the chopping. I know too many good folks trying to make end meet and things just keep getting worse.

Hey all, I finally brought my laptop to the mac-authorized place. They said they'd try to open the disk space on front to allow disks in and out so that I wouldn't have to replace the whole bottom case. They also said that if my disk drive itself was bad that it's still under warranty because I got the extended plan, and that they'd call me in the next 48 hours to tell me if they got it fixed and what the price is.

Other than that, I spent 2 hours finding out that Best Buy, Radio Shack, Ritz and Major Mac don't have an HDV cable for me to download my videos to my laptop. The camcorder came with the cable for loading PICTURES, but I don't need that. So, does anybody know where I can get an HDV-to-USB cable?

what is a HDV cable? are you sure it's not a firewire cable?

There is an HDV port on the back and the owners manual says to use an HDV cable (commercially available of course) to download video. The picture shows something similar to the connection on the right in the image below. The cable that came with the camera is a 4-pin connector on one end and a usb on the other (exactly the same as the cable for my XT). On my camera there is a port marked "HDV/DV" and one below it marked "HDMI Out". I might just need a 4-pin-to-Firewire cable like THIS CLICKY (external link) but I'm not sure and I don't know where to find one. All the stores I went to today didn't carry one

Good luck to you and your family Kay, this same story seems to be echoing from every corner of the US. And I'm in the position if I lost my job I'd just let the bank have my home because I owe more than the house is worth currently. Damn economy.
