Ghostrider, that looks like a higher elevation than downtown Denver -- where abouts is it?

I'm at about 7,500 feet, or so, at work. Denver runs between 5,600ish to 6,000ish. I am roughly 2,000 feet above Denver itself. When I run or mountain bike to the top of the mountain right outsided our door at work, that puts me at 8,274 feet (according to the marker at the top).

Morning all!

We are getting a little snow here as well, but I am happy about it because I want to go snowboarding haha.

Although I do wish that I didn't have to drive in it.

I went snowbaording yesterday at Copper. It was phenominal!!! I had soooo much fun. I slept so hard last night. I almost didn't get up for work this morning.

That's a fancy looking house Jeff, how long till you move in?

You don't wanna live there. To much silly stuff to deal with to live in that place. I'd rather live in a place out in town . . . hahaha

Well, it dates back into the 1800s. It is 10,000 some odd sq ft. It is very big and I have had the pleasure to spend about 9 hours in it :) The rug this general ordered for the stairs was $10k. It is huge.

I was reading the rumors about the old hospital being haunted. I had heard the story and wanted to see if anyone had posted anything about it. There are a few places that referrence it. I love stories like that.

There are many haunted things out here. Natalie used to baby sit for a couple in an old home, and there was a cavalry man that "lived" upstairs. They could hear him walking on hard wood floor with his boots, even though it was carpeted. She saw him a few times come to the landing in the middle of the stairs and that was it.

I'm the same way - it'd be neat to experience some of this. :)

My Aunt has a similar story. She lives in a house with a ghost. Seems the previous owner died in the house and she sees him from time to time. The first time she was an elderly gentleman in her family room. when she talked to him he got up and walked into the hall. She followed but could not find him anywhere in the house.

She mentioned this to a neighbor and asked if there were any old guys that wandered into homes from the woods as she lives in a very rural location. She described the guy and the neighbor freaked. Guess this guy dressed the same every day and the4 description matched. She sees him a couple times a year now. I have been in the house several times but never seen him. I do keep my camera ready anytime im in the house though :)

Ok, Dad got me a 6-pin to 4-pin firewire cable so now all I need is my laptop and I'll be in business (figuratively speaking). I sent an email to TDL asking about my dive light which I ordered on the 9th and was supposed to be shipped in about 10 days. Apparently the manufacturers shipment got held up in customs and didn't notify the distributor. So they said it will be shipping to me this week.

On another note, I'm going to be starting the SSI Dive Control Specialist program April 6th (basically I'll be an assistant instructor almost). In order to take the course I'll be taking Diver Stress and Rescue in March, I already have enough dives, enough specialties and I'm 18 (pre-requisites are 18yo, 40 dives, Specialty certification and Stress and Rescue).

Oooooooh, haunted places are cool but I've never been to a REAL haunted place. There are some "haunted" places around here that are actually just really old places (like jericho covered bridge). The last time I was there the only haunting was from me and a buddy hiding in the lower rafters and screaming when cars drove through.

Wow Nick, looks like you're on your way to being a top notch diver!

Yup, I'm working on it. During and after the course I'll be doing a lot of diving so I'm looking forward to that. Lifeguarding is fine but I'd like to be able to take a "weekend off" to go on checkouts with a class, then possibly work one of the evening parties. We still need to hire a couple more guards to help during the summer because 2 or 3 of our 5 guards will be working at outdoor pools and I think one other one will be going away to college.

Hello everyone. Looks like lots were busy over the weekend. I've been scanning in a bunch of old slides and restoring them. Got about 50 or so done over the weekend. They are coming out pretty nice and looking better than the originals. I guess slides can benefit from a digital workflow. :) Here is a sample.

here's a Question. what did you use to digitize your old slides? I'm getting ready for a restoration project... still in the research phase, now and looking at a lot of options.

I limited my search to only the flatbeds as not only did I have slides and negatives but I also had many old prints as well. It boiled down to three scanners, the Canoscan8800, HP-G4050, and the Epson V500. I had the Epson V700 in the mix as well, but at 0ver $500 it dropped out as the V600 does everything the V700 does but wet scan.

The HP I think was the best scanner. It has a six color scaning system that supposedly delivers the best color rendition. But the software was clumsy and the scanner was real slow.
The Canoscan8800 looked pretty decent as well but I finally settled on the Epson for a couple of main reasons. First, I got to try out all three at a local officemax and the epson was the fastest of the three. Next the software is very simple yet has all of the features I needed. The color restoration function is outstanding and it does real nice when you load up a set of 10 negatives or 4 slides into automatically breaking up the pics into individual files. And lastly, Even pixel peeping I could not see the advantage of the 6 color scanning. Maybe it's because most of the slides are old and require significant restoration as well so I'm adjusting levels and curves, cloning out dust by hand, sharpening, and applying noise ninja to reduce grain as well.

I've go a few pics posted if you want to see the results:

I went with the Epson for a number of reasons.
