450D autofocus failure

i've bought 450d few days ago, in 18-55 and 50mm kit.
today i was shooting pics at home, and then AF just stopped working. i haven't turned camera off or changed lenses. it just stopped working after i took normal pic with AF. lense doesn't move at all when i press shutter button half way down. like it's dead.
i've had 50mm lens on. first i tried changing lens, putting 18-55 on camera. but AF doesn't work on it too. tried even reseting camera options in menu, still not working.
and i haven't dropped it, haven't done anything unusual to it. one shot it was fine, and when i tried to focus for another shot, it didn't work.
i'm out of ideas. please tell me that this problem has some solution other than sending it to service...

thanks so much!

If you're within the exchange period, I'd take it back to the store where you bought it.

Sorry but i have to ask.

You didn't by chance happen to accidently hit the AF/MF switch to MF on the lenses while holding it did you? I've done it before by accident and with the 450D being a small DSLR, it could happen depending on how our holding it.

If the switch setting is fine,I'd take it back.

Hello, did you buy it from a store or online vendor? My suggestion is to take it back for a replacement, or raise an issue and send it back to the vendor if they are online.

bah. it works now. i've put battery on charge for about 30mins until it was fully charged, left camera off for another hour. and when i put on lens and turned it on, AF was working just fine
i hope this won't happen again, but if it does, well, i will just let it cool off :)

Great to hear its working :D .

Hope it doesn't repeat itself. I guess there wasn't enough juice in battery for AF to work? I would think it would take quite a bit time of continuous shooting for it to get that hot?

My 450D/XSi can act weird when the battery is near-dead.
Suddenly, it won't turn on at all. Or the AF fails. It's always been the battery; always charge fully if it starts doing strange things. I don't think the battery charge is displayed accurately on the camera, and in fact it seems only Sony has batteries that report their charge-status accurately.

Happens to me sometimes too! In fact the whole camera actually freezes.. I just turn it off for like 5 seconds and turn it back on and it's good as new.
