Hello POTN,

I realize that the 50D is still a relatively new camera on the market, but are there any prominent issues with them? I cant seem to find any people complaining about anything.

No ER99's like some of the 40d, or anything along those lines correct?

Thanks

There were some ERR 99 issues with some early cameras, but Canon released a firmware update that seems to have fixed it. I didn't have any issues with the one I had--nice camera!

Yea, the ERR99s really have died down since the release of 1.0.3. I've had mine a few weeks now and no issues to report. Been working flawlessly..

Well, to today. It had a hiccup but I'm thinking it was some type of user error because i can't reproduce the problem.

Not sure why, but call me JJ.

Speak of the devil. I'm about to take my camera in for repairs. My new 50D is giving me a shutter sync issue that's pretty bad. Any shutter speed over 500th of a second shows the shutter in the shot. Up to 2000th of a second, the picture is completely black.

Hmm? The camera has a sync speed of 1/250. Sounds like your issue is normal.

So, using a wireless flash reciever and trigger won't up the sync speed? Wow do I feel dumb now. I figured those flash and trigger modules made my setup godly. haha. Thanks for saving me a trip to best buy, where they'd send it out and I'd not get it back for a month with nothing wrong with it. You my friend are a true hero.

Thanks a ton! I normally use my flash mounted via hotshoe, which won't let me roll the shutter higher than the set synce speed...usually. I guess I felt like I had no limitations since the camera let me go past the normaly sync speed I'm used to. I guess that's why I'm still learning, I was just hoping I'd be far past the basics by now.

Well put my friend. It is rather magnificent what an off camera flash can do with an umbrella. So scratch that all 50D onlookers. I'm just a beginner.

No issues here - no err-99 or flash errors (lol).... so far working like a champ. My camera came from B&H several weeks ago w/ firmware 1.0.3 installed.

Just learning the ins and outs of the new layout (compared to 20D) and having fun taking pictures....

Got mine (2) about a month ago from NewEgg.com with 1.0.1 installed. Had a couple of initial problems. Installed 1.0.3 and, more than 3,000 combined clicks later, no issues. Been working a real treat!

My paper's 50D was having rampant (and consistently repeatable) ERR99 problems, but after the 1.0.3 update today, I haven't been able to make it ERR99 a single time! YES!!!

I'm having a huge problem with the 50D. It made used price for a used 40D drop drastically! Now I can't sell my 40D without getting robbed. I wanted to sell it to get a 5D classic but can't even get enough for my 40D to cover half the price of a used 5D.

Other than that, I love my 50D. No issues. Mine came with the newest firmware already installed.
