I'm so close to having this right, but my Lightroom "Import Photos" dialog pops up every time I take a shot. The photos import into LR perfectly fine without it and I just have to cancel the screen, but I can't seem to figure out how to make it stop popping up. I've tried with Auto Import checked and unchecked (of course when it's unchecked it doesn't import anything), I've unchecked the box to show import dialog when memory card is detected. I'm obviously missing a step somewhere. Anyone know what I need to change?

My only thought is to call Adobe. If you get the answer I would really like to know, shooting tethered really makes studio shooting much easier!

I really had a hard time with the terrible font on that site, but I skimmed it the best I could and I didn't see an answer to my question. If it's there, could you tell me where to look? There is a lot of information there.

I can only recommend CaptureOnePro. It works flawlessly.

OK... I got 2 links in the thread that appear to just be instructions for setting this up. I have a very specific question not related to the actual setup of the process of tethered shooting.

So, to reiterate again... tethered shooting is working perfectly. Lightroom recognizes that an image has appeared and pops up the Import Photos dialog box. I do not know how to tell LR not to pop up the dialog. I do not want to buy another program to do this, I am asking only about a setting that would turn off the "Import Photos" dialog box.

If the question is answered in one of those links, please just tell me what the answer is because I have not been able to find it.

Well, you're very close but the EOS Utility and Lightroom have to set up perfectly so they both have the same game plan.
The problem you are having is the import dialog box keeps popping up. That tells me there is a setting not correct in your Lightroom Auto Import settings. Once set correctly, Lightroom bypasses the Import Dialog and automatically imports images that are put into your Watched Folder by the EOS Utility.
I know this doesn't answer your question re: click on this, click on that, so the short answer is to relook at your Auto Import Settings in Lightroom.

I just wanted to know what setting I'm missing... as I said, I already know that something isn't correct. The question is what that thing is. So, if anyone knows what that setting is, I'd love to know. I promise I am completely aware that there is a settings issue -- the problem is that there isn't a clear indication anywhere of what the problem might be, which is why I decided to come here and ask.

I don't think it's Lightroom. I think it's a Windows setting, maybe in the "File Handling Preferences" or "Default Programs" where you can select which program starts when a file with a certain extension is opened. For example, you could tell Windows you want to open JPG's with the Windows Picture and FAx Viewer, then anytime you double-click a JPG, it starts that program. But, maybe is Lightroom. Did you look through all the options in Edit/Preferences. I don't use LR, so not sure about that menu.

If there is a setting in there that can be tweaked it might help you. I know when I installed a LR trial, even though I had always used ZoomBrowser to import files from CF cards, whenever I inserted a CF card in the reader, Lightroom would start.

I know where you can find your answer - NAPP - National Association of Photoshop Professionals. Anyone can join, like me. It cost's $99 a year, but you get the Photoshop User magazine, and TONS of helpful tutorials, video and written, and discounts on ADobe software and other stuff, and their Help staff is awesome, in my experience.

I had an issue I couldn't figure out when I had 400 files I wanted to resize and make into a collage-type thing. I filled out the Help form, got an answer about 8 hours later, and it worked perfectly.

I just logged in to my NAPP gallery, and there was a "Refer A Friend" blurb. Not much in it for me ( I would have to refer about 15 people to get much -= like my membership extended). However, if you do decide to join and use this link (external link) , it says you get a free copy of a DVD that's s omething like "Photoshop - top Tips & Tricks" or something.
NAPP is the org that Scott Kelby started, I think.

Beepclick, joining sounds like a great idea for the rest of us, but Andrea is already one of the best Photoshoppers on this forum, IMHO.

I have a Windows dialog set to pop up, but these are not the same window. I don't want to change the Windows popup as it doesn't interfere with the import process and I like the AutoPlay features of Windows. Lightroom has its own internal window and it's this window that pops up, not the Windows one. If that makes sense.

I am a member of NAPP -- free shipping at B&H!! woohoo! I haven't found much of interest over there in the way of information, but I suppose I can sign up for their forum if it really bothers me enough in the future.

I was just wondering if anyone knew over here... I would hate to blaze into a new forum demanding help when I'm not contributing over there. I'd only do that if I really, REALLY needed to know.

(and thank you, sunnygirl :o )

Discussion on another forum prompted me to give tethered shooting a try today and I was successful in getting images into DPP. I saw this thread and as I have Lightroom, I thought to give it a go as well. To cut to the chase, I got it to import and display in LR without the popup import dialog occuring. I didn't change a whole lot to have this work. I did have to create an empty folder as a destination for the EOS Utility and then set this as the watched folder for auto import for LR.

If you want I'll take some screen shots of relevant setting menus and see if something helps out.

I'm running LR 2.1 and the most current version of EOS Utility. Windows XP Pro SP3

Megapixels and high ISO are a digital photographers heroin. Once you have a little, you just want more and more. It doesn't stop until your bank account is run dry.

I am not sure what screenshots I could take. In all the settings that I can find the import dialog box has been turned off. Like I said, it's finding the option to turn off that's the issue. If I knew where it was to screenshot it, I would have already turned it off there. Obviously my folders are set up properly and the EOS utility is set up correctly or it wouldn't be automatically importing. I'm not using LR 2.0, so I can't be sure they're the same. At this point, I'm not even going to worry about it anymore.

If anyone who knows stumbles upon this, perhaps while searching for something else, please let me know.
