I've been looking at Opanda and CS3, but the shutter count on the 5D I just purchased used cannot be found. Any idea why? Am I not looking in the right places? Thanks.

And I took a pic without resizing or editing in any way.

The only bodies that have user accessible shutter count are the 1 series.

Oh. This must be true with Canon only as I found the info for my Nikon?

Yes. One of many small, insignificant, but nonetheless frustrating missing user features of Canon cameras. (But hey, they have megapixels! ;) )

No shutter count for some body lines
Different remotes for different body lines
Different batteries for different body lines

Do you ever get the feeling that Canon has two or three different engineering centers and that none of them ever talk to each other? How else can you explain that the EOS line can't even have one common remote shutter release? It's crazy!

Like anything else, its probably because the profit margin is much higher on the accessories. :D I'm considering a 5D Mark II once the initial fervor dies down and the first hands-on user reviews come in...even though the price of the body looks good, owners will be looking at new batteries, larger capacity CF cards, new L-brackets and/or clamps, and God only knows what else.

At least my present-day 10D, 30D, and 5D take the same batteries and remote switch.

I feel like I can decipher my exact shutter count. I remember hooking up my camera directly to my parent's computer, then copied some of my photos onto the desktop. They pasted into folders called IMG_158 or something like that. In every folder were exactly 100 photos (less the ones I deleted in camera). So, weren't those the 15,800th-15,899th photos that my camera has taken?

Dang, then my 40D has 84,000 shutters on it.

...even though I'm the sole owner and only took like 4000. :)

Good idea though.

I'm fairly certain it's less engineering related and more business related.

At least Canon doesn't make us buy all new lenses when we want to upgrade... or maybe they do if we want to go full frame.

Nikon took that crown now on the high-end line with the 24.5 MP Nikon D3X.
