Hello all,

This is probably a stupid question with a simple answer, but I can't figure it out.

When I import photos they show up in a row at the bottom of the program. Now, when I click on an individual picture to enlarge it for the first time, I swear the file loses both clarity and color. Is Light Room applying some sort of pre-set to my files? If so, how do I shut it off??

Thank you for your patience and time,

:D

See my reply to this post: https://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=603882

I think you may be seeing the same issue of embedded RAW preview being shown before LR's preview is generated.

Are you having LR generate any previews on import? If any are generated on import, whatever the size, I'd think that you wouldn't see any of the color shift that you mention.

This is just how it is. While you're still importing and it's showing previews, you're seeing the embedded JPG preview that your camera created as opposed to a preview of your actual file with any adjustments. There are default settings applied to the photo so even if you're not using RAW (and for sure if you are), there can be some shift unless you change the defaults.

To change the defaults, open an image in the Develop module, change all the sliders to whatever default you'd like to use, then hold your "Alt" key (on Windows) and hit the "Set Default" button that appears in place of the "Reset" button. Mine are all defaulted to baseline because I like to edit each file from scratch and only apply mass edits if the images were from the same lighting/series.

I linked it in the other thread I mentioned also, but I'll throw it in here too... its the Beta ACR profiles from Adobe which, IMO, are a vast improvement over the typical rendering it gives.
