I was in my local camera shop talking to the sales rep about the 24-70, and I mentioned I was interested in the 70-200 f/4L IS. He tells me they have a second hand one out the back that they're willing to sell for $900! (£380 or $570 USD) The shop sells this lens for around $1500 new, and they'll be about $1900 after the 15th of December due to the flailing aussie dollar.

This has happened at the same time that my 24-70mm f/2.8L has arrived in the shop as well. These will be my first L lenses, and I'll have them both in a week's time!

Just make sure it's the IS. Price is about right for the non-IS

You will be in heaven --- and the shutter clicks will abound! Enjoy! When I got my first L lens I just couldn't stop marveling at the images.

True.

This is one on my short list - but I need to sell my beloved Tokina before that.

I checked that about 4 times in the shop. I couldn't believe the deal either!

Good grief, the shutterbug angels are watching over you, they must have a very special future planned for you, ENJOY! You've got more than just a couple of "L" lenses, you have a fantastic pair that work together perfectly.

Even if it's non-IS that's a pretty good price. (Here in Canada)

Make sure you take a lot at the lens and test it before you buy.
