Ok...not sure if this ill meet contest requirements but here goes:

I need some beginning of chapter illustrations for a book I am self publishing:

http://www.authorsden.com/SampleWorksPDF/14222.pdf (external link)

This contest will be for possible images to use for this project. If you win your picture will be used in the book and you will receive full credit.

Rules:

1. BW or color acceptable
2. Should be converted to watercolor to match the style of existing images
3. All "modern" parts of views (wires, cars, etc) should be edited out
4. Title with chapter they are to head up
5. Of course you must read the story to know what theimage should look like...

Have fun!

No one up to it?

I thought folks liked challenges...oh well will have to shoot these myself as time permits...I already have the first few chapters done with some PS'ed shots from England pubs and castles in California as well as a planned "Elf" shoot with my daughter...but thought some folks might like the work to get this type of shot...

Jeepers... kind of a specific genre. Some tips maybe... your story is rather long and maybe not everyone has the time to read all of it for the potential that they may have images. I'd suggest you pick some categories of images you are looking for and see if people can provide. Second suggestion is that you provide the watercoloring method you used so as to make them blend in - or to just do the watercoloring process yourself. Third suggestion: provide more details about the usage of the images - a contract. Most people, including myself, aren't willing to just give up images for a publication without specifics guaranteeing their usage.

Anyway, I went through my images and after reading chapters 1-2 the only really relevant image I could find is this. Traveling along a cold, wintery river?

Nice shots! I see what you mean. I'll try to provide more ideas. The photographer will retain all rights (except first book rights which I will need) but they will have the picture back to use however they wish.

some ideas:

A smith at a forge
A keep (castle) looking like a childs squared off jack standing on end
A robot/cyborg with smooth metal skin
A strong broad shouldered man with long hair climbing a cliff
Any ren fair type photos of men sword fighting
men poleing a barge/flatboat
