Hello again :)

I've recently been contemplating upgrading my XTi to either a 40/50D, 5d, or a 1DMK2.

It doesnt seem like I can go wrong with either camera, but apparently IQ wise the 40/50D isnt really that big of a difference from what I understand. If I upgrade to a xxD line, I would be mainly upgrading for bells and whistles, like build quality, live view, and things like that. Then again, I have read some posts where people have said that their 40/50D IQ blows away the IQ of the XTi, so I am getting confused / mixed messages about what is really the case.

Ive also read about how DOF is much thinner on FF cameras like the 5d. Is this the case on the 1d's also since its inbetween crop and FF?

I guess my main question is, is the 1dmk2 a bigger step up in terms of IQ than a 40/50D would be? I mean, yes i do like the fact that the 40/50D has a bigger screen, but if I know the 1D AF is always accurate, then I wont have to worry if I nailed focus or not.
Thanks

I use both the 1D2 and 50D and the IQ is definately better on the 50D. If you need top quality AF and frame rate then the 1D2 is still the way to go.

Chalk another one up for Canon Bob! Consise, and to the point.
Just throw in the 5d vs. the 1dsm2 (both can be had cheap!!!).
If you can live with the small rear screen, a used 1dsm2 looks REAL GOOD now...

There is nothing like a 1D series camera. Have you used one? The AF system is heads and shoulders above the others.

so 1d wont have IQ as good as the 50D, but will it be beter than my XTi?

ive held a 1d mk2, and i love how meaty it feels lol. a smaller screen might bother me, but if i know the focus is nailed on each time, i'm sure it wont be bad :)

ive found a couple of 1d's but mostly have around 90K+ shutter actuations so im going to see if i can find one with around 20K and pay a little more for it.

For static shots then I doubt you'll really see any difference. The 1D will probably produce better results, IQ'wise, on moving targets simply because the AF is more likely to have nailed it...statistically, at least.
