I got a new 450D last week and cant seem to open my raw images in CS2, although I never once had a problem with my old 300D.

Anybody know if this is a problem with CS2 or something to do with the 450D.

Cheers

Phil

You cannot open RAW files from a Canon 450D/XSi directly in CS2 since there's no support for that camera model in the versions of Adobe Camera Raw that run under Cs2.

You have several options though:
(1) Use DPP to convert your files to TIff format
(2) Use the free DNG converter to convert your RAW files to DNG format
(3) Upgrade to CS3 at least (the ACR versions in CS3 support the camera)
(4) use Lightroom.

Support for the 450d was added in ACR 4.4.1.

Note from Adobe site about this:

The Camera Raw 4.4.1 plug-in is not compatible with versions of Photoshop earlier than Photoshop CS3 or versions of Photoshop Elements earlier than Photoshop Elements 4.0 for Macintosh or Photoshop Elements 5.0 for Windows®. The latest versions of the Camera Raw plug-in available for previous Adobe software titles are listed below:
Macintosh
• Photoshop CS2: Camera Raw 3.7
• Photoshop Elements 3.0: Camera Raw 3.6

Windows
• Photoshop CS2: Camera Raw 3.7
• Photoshop Elements 4.0: Camera Raw 3.7
• Photoshop Elements 3.0: Camera Raw 3.6

Long story short... that camera is not supported in CS2 ACR.

You should be able to download the latest .dng converter, convert your file to .dng, and then open IT in CS2's ACR. (While you're at it upgrade to the latest compatible ACR for CS2 also.)

edit: (Fedka beat me by a minute. ;) )
