Paypal is now putting an automatic hold on ebay transactions.

24 hours after positive feedback, 3 days after delivery or 21 days with no feedback or tracking info.

You can't even use the money on hold to pay for shipping.

They are now apparently an escrow service.

Interesting, I've never seen any update on that although I guess I haven't sold anything on ebay in a while. So sounds like those things are for "Buyer Protection" - are they adding anything to protect the sellers?

The same thing happened to me a couple of weeks ago; I never received the memo...

It would seem that they changed the TOS without notifying a lot of people. As soon as my item sold, went to Paypal and it was on hold for a bit over 7 business days, if the buyer received my item and never gave me feedback or had I sent it without a tracking number, it would've been 21+ days!

I think I'll be looking into something else for eBay sales.

Yeah I had the same thing as well. The buyer was a nice guy, so I had no problems, but if he hadn't left positive feedback I wouldn't have been able to touch the money for 21 days. I DID put in valid tracking info, but PayPal couldn't tell it had been delivered. Very poor choice, but I guess they keep getting people scammed with bogus gear. It's nice when you're the buyer, but lame when you're the seller.

same thing for me. now I got $$$ pending on me. I used USPS so no Tr.No. Buyer doesn't let me know whether he received the item. So, what, 21 days? eBay is already bad enough with all the scams. Not sure if I'm ever gonna set foot (hand) on there again.

are you sure it's not a function of how many transactions you have?
I have maybe 200 transactions and sold something yesterday afternoon
and already swept the funds into my account.

At the same time, I did a deal last week where I paid immediately
(I have a confirmed address) and the seller, who had very little ebay
feedback was hassling me to provide positive feedback prior to me
receiving it. I'm not comfortable doing that.

You guys haven't even begun to have issues with Paypal yet! Try closing your accounts, then see what happens!

Only if you're a new seller and/or high risk and/or selling high risk items AND selling on eBay. It doesn't apply to everyone.

Sell your gear here. No reason to go to eBay with it unless it's broken.

BWWWAAAAaaaahhahahahahaha. Ain't that the truth. This sounds like a great move by PayPal to me. There are more honest buyers than there are sellers out there. Not that all of them are selling broke junk. ;)

Not true, I have a long and clean history with Paypal going back to 2000. This change in TOS is on the ebay selling agreement, not the paypal site.

It seems to be on certain categories (consumer electronics etc.) for ebay sales. So if somebody here wants to use ebay for a coupon, you the seller
will have a delay in getting your money.

Certain categories and above a certain price. I just sold off some guitar gear. Nothing went on hold, and everything sold was under $100 each. $90 was the highest. However when I listed my guitar at $2000 a warning telling of the hold popped up, So I knew before I committed to the auction that the money would be held.

Did everyone else who experienced a hold on their funds also receive a warning email?

FWIW, about a week ago I sold a 20D with lens on ebay for $400, and immediately withdrew the funds from my paypal account.
