So if we have the next meet at WCC, will it be a potluck style? Or shoot-and-eat?

I've been to KCC on saturdays and there's almost nobody there w/ bathrooms open so i'm guessing WCC would be the same...

So you can just go there and security won't bother you? I'm guessing if we tried the same thing at LCC that security would hassle us a little bit. Although it's possible that I could get us a West O'ahu classroom. I've never been to WCC, but I'm guessing it's a lot more scenic than LCC/UHWO. Can you just park in the lot?

the security at KCC didn't bother me at all. I was taking photographs and all, but they didn't bother.

So it's your GF's bday and ???. Anyway, I did notice you only show up for the BBQ meets. She just needs a great dinner. :p j/k.

Lucky dog, China for business or pleasure?

haha. i really wanted to show up for the strobe meets. i havent made it to one yet...blah. my PWs have been seeing some good use though. hehe.

I'm going for pleasure. the parents said "hey wanna go to china? we'll pay!" so i said "HELLS YES!"

i will have my camera with me, and i'm going to do a picture story on being a foreign journalist in a nation that is notorious for media censorship.

Either works for me.

WCC is pretty empty on the weekends. I used to ride my bike there all the time and no one bothered me. I've never checked for open bathrooms though.

I'm guessing the security might ask what we're doing if they see light stands and umbrellas, but I don't think they'd ask us to leave.

It's definitely more wet and green. Lots of wild chickens too.

Yep, parking won't be a problem. There are 4 parking lots around the lower campus area but no gates or arms. I've seen parents teaching their teenagers to drive in the lots and the security guards don't even look twice.

We've walked our dogs at WCC and the security guards didn't bother us.

That's cool. Some of the LCC guards are cool, but some of the others not so much.

Is there cover in case of rain and someplace where I can set up my background stand that won't stain a white muslin?

There are a few covered walkways here and there. And I think there is a covered stage or something on one end of the campus (can't remember what it is exactly, I'm usually riding past it on my bike while going downhill so I don't really look at it...I'd rather watch where I'm going).

As far as not staining the white muslin...if it's not raining you should be okay. But it's been raining on our side quite a bit lately and the WCC campus grounds must be pretty saturated by now.

Maybe I'll take a drive over there with my camera this weekend and take pictures of the campus so you can see what we might be dealing with.

:) Chris

i would humbly suggest using an indoor location for the muslin. don;t chance it outside.

if you;re shooting outside, the world is your background.

FYI: This is the last month to donate to charity for sensor cleanings at CanonUSA. One cleaning per $20 donated to March of Dimes. Forgot to mention I will have a displayed photo in the Canon gallery next month for the contest.

That would be cool if you can do that, Chris. Don't trouble yourself, though.

I'd definitely prefer to shoot with the muslin inside, but one of the main things I wanted to practice was shooting with the white muslin background. I'll play it by ear, though. Definitely don't want to ruin a $100 muslin.

Nah, no problem...gives me a reason to get out and shoot something. I haven't been shooting much lately (too lazy). And if one of the security guards approaches me I can see how they feel about a bunch of people shooting around the campus on the weekends. Hopefully they won't mind.

Oh yeah...forgot all about this. I called the Valley Of The Temples a couple of weeks ago about shooting at the Byodo-In Temple and the cemetary grounds. I asked them what their policy was regarding a camera club shooting on their property. The person I spoke to said they charge $300 for a group to shoot on their grounds for 2 hours. I probably forgot about the phone call because I was in shock after hearing the price .

Mahalo for the update, $300 is a bit steep unless your making money off of it.

They're really a pain in the ass over there. I think they charge even more for a wedding or commercial shoot. But really if ten guys show up (either separately or together) and don't use the photos for anything commercial then it should be fine. If you never ask anything then they don't say anything but if you ask then they tell you that $300 crap. It's really annoying. At least that's what happened when I talked to them when I went last year. I have the paper that I signed somewhere, I'll see if I can find it.
