Hello all. Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Micah and I know some of you here and have met a few of you. Unfortunately, I haven't ever been able to go to a meet up so I don't really know as many people as some of you do. I am a special education teacher at Dole Middle School in Kalihi.
I know that many of us are on hard times, some of us not so much as others, and some of us more so than others. Anyhow, I know many of you are great photographers, many professional, many not but good enough to be.
This is totally out of the blue, and I'll try to bring it up a few more times, but I was wondering if any of you would be interested in participating a FREE FAMILY PHOTO SHOOT day, perhaps the 2nd Saturday after Thanksgiving which is NOT the Black Friday weekend (for sort of like a Christmas gift).
This is what I envision. The location would be my school. I would pay for use of the cafeteria, and bring you guys food, advertise the event. Some of you could bring your lighting/studio gear and cameras, and a few laptops and printers. We'd take free pictures of families, do very simple touch-ups, print out the pictures (set amount to be determined later, but maybe something like 2 8x10s and 4 4x6s?) for free. If they'd like more, we'd ask for a donation (to go entirely to a non-profit organization not yet determined) and print them more. I would try my best to get donations, such as gift cards for any volunteers.
Perhaps we could get 2 or 3 shifts, and just run it from 10:00am to 3:00pm. I am just wondering if there would be enough interest and commitment to even try to organize something like this.
Additional details:
1. There would be absolutely no cost to you. I'd pay for ink, paper, etc. Hopefully you guys would bring the hardware. Unless you'd like to help me out, I intend to fund this myself or find funding. But I need the manpower volunteers.
2. Dole Middle School's population consists of upper Kalihi and 2 Public Housings. Many people who may not be as fortunate as others (no offense to any Kalihians). Many of them would not be able to afford a professional photo shoot. This would be open to ANYONE from anywhere regardless of income. Just bringing up Kalihi as the students' families would be the main target only due to proximity to the site.
3. I feel that perhaps I can give something back to the community. I get no credit for this, no raise, no monetary gain for myself, friends, or relatives. I really want to do this.
Anyone even slightly interested? Or is this already going on? Reply here please!
