Aloha! I'm in need of a long lens (100mm minimum) for Wednesday and Thursday. I'm more than willing to rent this lens out from anyone willing, and even provide my 17-40L as collateral until your lens is returned to alleviate any worries. Surf is projected to be 20-40 foot faces, and I don't want to miss out like last year. I've already checked lens rentals on island and there is nothing available. Anyone willing to help, let me know by PM. Mahalo!

If anyone is interested, tonight's sunset is going to be spectacular. I cannot go and shoot because of prior commitments (which I'm hating myself for volunteering), so I thought I would spread the news.

If anyone does go shoot, I would love to see the results.

Thanks for the heads-up, John. I'll bring my camera and keep an eye out. Sunset with the 100 macro? We'll see!

Unfortunately it was a bust. The mid-level clouds moved in an hour before sunset and obscured everything! However, due to the appearance of a moondog tonight, I know there are tons of high clouds over the island right now. I'm betting either sunrise or sunset (or both) is going to be sick in the next day or 3. Not to mention that full moon occurs tomorrow as well. Keep those cameras on you!

Thanks for the info John. I have a link to the noaa site (satellite interpretation message) which I think I got from one of your posts a while back. Any tips on what types of conditions to look for when predicting sunrises/sunsets?

Enjoy your stay! Maui is my favorite photo island, bring a whole bunch of storage photo space!

Got a ton of it :-) Plus I will have my computer and HDs with me.
I think I am only going to bring my 24-70 and 70-200 lens as I can cover pretty much anything with those two (maybe not surfers).

We are pretty excited to come, I have been stuck in Egypt for the last few weeks (and will be here for 17 more days), so I will be ready for some pretty beaches and fun!!

We will be staying at the Westin in Honolulu, and the Hyatt in Maui (I hope they are nice).
If any of you want to shoot, let me know! My wife likes to sleep in and I am up at the crack of dawn, so I will be out finding something to shoot!

Yeah I still use that website. Nice to know someone took my advice :)

Keywords I look for: upper level trough (sometimes you have to check the lat/long to see if it's near/over the islands), cirrus, high clouds, low over the islands or just to the southeast

Another thing that can help is to start looking at the infrared imagery. High clouds, the ones that give sick sunrise/sets, are the coldest and appear brightest in infrared. I like to take a look at it every time I go to NOAA's website also.

Hope this helps.

Sorry to get off topic, but I thought people here may be able to help.

Anybody have any leads as to where to borrow/rent a projector, suitable for a wedding slide show? The hotel wants to charge me $500 to use theirs.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Andrew
