I've been ask to shoot a RAP cd cover for a model's rapper husband.

I've not done a CD cover shoot before so I'm not sure how to charge.

I have hourly rates for events but I don't know how to apply that to this.

I'm guessing there will be no prints, just images on a CD for him to use however he chooses.

I'm also fairly certain that this will be a low budget kind of deal.

Any suggestions appreciated. I did a search here but could not find anything.

Thanks

I'd ask $ 280.00 with minimum 10 photos on cd...

Mind if I ask how you structure your prices? Is it based on an hourly charge or is it just per job?

Thanks

$280 seems kinda low for a cd cover, imo.

More info you'd probably need to know includes what the print run is (how many cd's they will be printing)

Fotoquote helps

Yes, you're right... Probably it's a bit low depending on a few factors:
1) will be shoot in studio or on location?
2) how many outfit changes?

I charge per job...
I'd ask $280 if it'd be those ten pictures on cd without outfit change. This session would last aproximately one hour in my studio. I don't like to charge based on time because sometimes I need less time to achieve the quantity, or if I feel I didn't get the shot I can extend the session a bit longer.

BUT

Considering the use of one of your images (or few of them), I would add a fee for licensing them for cd cover... But you need more info about it, like how many copies will be made.

Can only say I Just did a cd cover and picture inserts inside (5 shots used) on a minor label cd and was paid $1000 for using existing shots.

Well, it depends on the level of the rapper (i.e. major label vs indie vs no label).

Labels will most definitely want to have a one time fee and that's it - I know one guy gets $2,500 from major labels (well he said it during the bands documentary of the album making including the photo shoot), the before mentioned $1,000 from minor, and indie bands well good luck.

Matthew Sweet - I still put in his old album while on the road.

Ask for a white limo with blinged up gold wheels, a sun roof, and a jacuzzi in the back.

On average, one photo for use in a DVD insert at a 1/4 size of a page recently went for $400.

If the band really wants the pics, they'll pay.
