I have 2 Pocket Wizards, 1 580ex II and 1 430ex. Can I not slave the 430ex from the 580ex II connected to the PW? I Can not seem to fire the 580ex as a master to trigger the 430ex. Can anyone explain? Thanks!

Do a search using the term "hybrid triggering" and pull up a comfortable chair for a very long read. Be prepared to takes notes, it gets complicated.

Just the word "hybrid" might also get the right threads.

This movie plays here often.

Enjoy! Lon

From FlashZebra: "If you connect the Pocket Wizard via the PC port on the 580EX II, the needed Manual-Master mode is disabled. My "stab" guess is that this is what you are doing (the PW comes with a cord that will connect to the 580EX II PC port).

This means that you cannot trigger your "master" 580EX II to start the process to allow it to trigger your other compatible Canon flash units via the Canon infrared system. I call this "hybrid triggering" (part fundimental sync triggering, part Canon infrared triggering).

If you connect the Pocket Wizard to the 580EX II via the hotshoe you can regain the manual- master function on the 580EX II."

Thanks!
