I am debating about which monitor to get. Currently I'm using a fairly old Dell 1703 monitor, which is a 17 inch non-widescreen ultrasharp LCD. I believe it has an spva panel, and I have been very pleased with it. However, the max resolution is 1024x1258 (I think 1258, something like that, not on it right now), and that is a bit small. Also the screen in general is small, I would prefer a widescreen, and there is a line of approx an inch of stuck pixels on it.

So here's the thing. I don't want to shell out any more than 500 for a monitor, and price is a concern. I don't want a dell because I have just found that the way they operate annoys me more and more (customer service wise). I really like samsungs, and apple displays, but the apples are extremely pricey. I am looking for an spva or s-ips panel for color reasons, but I'm not a professional photographer and I would like the ability to game/watch DVDs with good quality.

I am looking at the samsung 245T which is s-pva and runs about $600. I could get 25% cashback if I bought off ebay, and maybe if I could find a refurb I could get it for ~$400.

I am also thinking about just getting a 20" apple cinema display, and I've found some for $270 on ebay (used), which would be about $210 after cashback. This should have better color accuracy, but the screen is significantly smaller and might not play dvds/games as well, which is a concern.

Are there any other monitors I should be looking at? HP (don't really like them... but would consider a monitor)? I know theres the dell 2408wfp but I'd much rather support any other company.

Also, how well do IPS monitors play games/dvds? Is this a real concern or would things be just fine?

Edit: Also, one thing to note is that I have two PCs, no macs. I'm assuming a PC on an apple monitor would be just fine, however are there any features that I wouldn't be able to use that I'd be paying for ? I'm pretty much decided on getting a 20" used ACD, although it is a fairly old monitor which does concern me.
