How did I do?

could be. I used a WB of flourescent which typically makes it blue(ish). All lights were the flourescent daylight corrected bulbs.

Could also be the blue background, purple ball and blue eyes though.

Think it's because of the WB flourescent you used. Do you like the blue cast?

I do because I thought it brought out his blue eyes. I'll try it again on Auto WB.

Maybe try the tungsten setting. I always use that indoors when there isn't much natural light available.

Generally, unless it's super off, I will usually use "as shot" WB (I use auto wb on my camera and it's usually spot on or close enough... I will occassionally use "flash" during converting from RAW to Photoshop if I was using a flash and it looks better).

Don't use the WB to adjust to bring out the blue of the eyes if it messes up the rest of the pic. I guess you could but then you would have to adjust the color balance of the pic to take out the blue and that, imo, is a bit more work than if you use the correct white balance then maybe mask the eyes and adjust the saturation and colorbalance of just that small part.

If you can post a higher rez copy of the original perhaps we could have a hand at an edit to show some examples. If you can't post the raw I would suggest a large jpg converted with the original wb as shot and no pp. You will also have to change your profile to allow image editing.

funny you should say that...my original shot was with tungston (1st pic). I thought that one was really blue (ish).

I just retook it using Auto. I don't care for that for some reason. (2nd pic)

Maybe Tungston is the way to go.

BTW...how can I upload hi res shots....the uploader limits to 1024 and 150 Kb.

Could probably work with the 2nd pic a bit more. The first is REALLY blue and would require much more tweaking with the color balance. The 2nd may just need a slight toning down of the red.

Hello. cute kid you have there. I am impressed that you were able to get him to pose for you. My 15 yo girl hates getting her pictures done. My 11 yo son tolerates it.. LOL

The 1st two photos are really blue. the 2nd one he has the smurf effect going on.. The 3rd shot is better but he has a red tone on that one. Have you thought about custom WB?? It is really easy..

Also pull your subject out about 4 - 6 feet from the BG and you will not have the shadow issue.. I see shadows below the balls on the 1st shot..

Nice work with your setup. I did it for a long time and think I did pretty good for what I had.. Keep it up.. :)

Thanks Heather. Good tips on the proximity. I will try the custom WB. This is all just plug and play right now. I'm not sure what the actual colour temperature is but I'll keep trying.

Maybe a larger aperture would help.

Aha! I took the original image and decreased the blue color variation in Elements and I think that's got it.

Yep, the last edit looks a lot better. Congrats on a studio setup, that's always exciting!
