Why is the 5D MkII only banging out under 4fps?

and FYI the original 5D is better in low light with the center than a 40D. Neither can focus in low light with outer points, so who cares if the 40D's are cross type?

again, different systems. The 5D's is more accurate, but center point based. The x0D does have more cross sensors, but they're no good in low light, so that's just better on paper IRL...

Hmmm....I've heard some people (Like PictureCrazy) who love the cros type outer points.

Maybe it's just the winter crankies setting in. Every winter I shoot in low light and I get tired of watching my 85L rumble back and forth from MFD to infinity while the 5D outer AF point tries to latch on to something....anything.:(

Do you know how long it takes an 85L to make the complete round trip?

The good news is that I put the EE-S screen in my 5D about a month after I got it and my manual focussing skills have improved.:) Plus manual focus improves composition because you stop putting everyones eyes at precisely one of the focus points for most of your shots.:D It is still slower though.:(

yeah, I can only imagine with a 85l....

and trust me, good, working outer points would rock. But the D700 didn't even get that right (their cross points are all cluster very close to the center in practice). I have a 40D and it hunts with it's outer points in the low light I shoot (1600, f2, 1/60th). It will try to focus and hunt where the 5D gave up sooner, but it rarely gets a lock, and if it does it's too slow/late typically.... So yeah, while the center point as the only good low light point does suck, my point is that it works very well in practice if focus/recompose works for you and it is the most accurate system I've used. Slightly slower than 1 series, but yeah, the accuracy has made me a huge fan.

can you tell I'm anxious for my 5Dii to arrive?
