How often do you use your Canon, Sigma or Tamron 70-200/2.8 non-IS handheld?

BOTHER- I meant to add "never" and "only in very low light", but I hit the submit button rather than modify poll options. Doh!

Any particular reason you're wondering?

curiousity coupled with long-term plans to get one. I'd go with either a 70-200/4 IS or a 70-200/2.8, but couldn't/wouldn't afford a 70-200/2.8 IS.

OTOH, a 200/2.8L would probably set me up well too- I have a 100/2.8. It's not a focal length range I use THAT much, but I would like something to use for portraits at a distance. I've been using my 100-400, and love it for this.

Only ever connected it to a tripod perhaps twice! I've used it indoors in a very poorly-lit rock club and had usable results at 1/60th at 200mm (I was a bit shocked!), so it's possible to get away with not being able to afford the IS. ;)

99.5% handheld and if not it's on a monopod and that's only if I'm going to be in the one place for a long time.

I included mounting it on a monopod in my 'usually' vote.

I voted sometimes, but that's only for a tripod. I use a monopod way more often for sports photography indoors or outdoors at night, but will handhold for most daytime outdoor sports as well as when I go on hikes with it.

Usually not. It's not like I'm setting up for bird of landscapes or even night photography with it. It's used for sports and action along with weddings. Can't move around quick and easy with a tripod.

I have a 70-200 F4 non-IS...close enough to what you're looking for...and unless I'm doing night long-exposure night photography I ALWAYS use it hand-held...
