today I host my photos on smugmug, of course it works great as we all know, but once I get my 5D MKII I will want to post videos as well and I dont want to pay smugmug 150 bucks a year to host HD video

so I am contemplating getting some space from godaddy or something for 50-70 bucks a year where you can host your own things

godaddy will allow you to use gallery, 4images or coppermine, I have never used either of them does anyone have experience with it? how hard was it to setup?

the one downside will be the lightroom to smugmug export wont work anymore :(

Just a slight terminology tweak... GoDaddy has those tools already installed, and you can use them. But it's a general purpose hosting service, and they will *allow* you to use practically anything. It's just that for the other stuff you'll need to install it yourself. Personally I'm quite happy with the JAlbum tool, but it depends on what your needs are.

You may find yourself wishing you went with smugmug. For $50ish you'll get shared hosting...which probably will choke and sputter on streaming HD. The easiest PHP/MySQL gallery to install is ZenPhoto; it features easy web installation. It's also much faster than Gallery2 and Coppermine.
