I have been using ZoomBrowser for a long time after buying my Canon S30 digital camera. During the last 2 weeks, I could not use it any longer since whenever I try to launch the program it hangs and blocks my whole computer. This same situation takes place when I plug my camera through the USB port and select ZoomBrowser as the target imaging application to download the taken pictures.
I have tried uninstalling and installing the software as well as downloading patches and updates.
I have been checking on the internet other alternatives but wanted to know if anyone has any sugestion or alternative to this problem.
Thanks in advance !

I have exactly the same problem as this - can anyone offer any fixes. I read something about the databases screwing up and having to delete and replace it - but nothing concrete...

cheers

D.

An all to common problem software. I suggest stop using it. Some of the G2 users here are downloading Breezbrowser. I personally am using Irfanview which is free. I became aware of this software from users here also and is also quite popular. I like it very much as a veiwer but still do all my editing in photoshop.

Hi, I just discovered this site a few minutes ago, and I'll be visiting a lot more. I'm a G2 user who has had this same problem with ZoomBrowser. I've done complete uninstalls and reinstalls of all the Canon software and nothing has helped. The Raw Converter still works fortunately. Basically I've decided to simply transfer my files from a CF reader to folders via My Computer and use the browser in PS7. I can still use Raw Converter when I need it (I'm not overwhelmed the supposed superiority of shooting RAW). Is there any real advantage to using other browsers? John

Sounds like it's time to move to BreezeBrowser. It's especially made for Canon cameras. It has an excellent built-in Canon RAW converter, tho' currently has no downloader (a separate freeware downloader is available at the Breeze System web site). There's no database to get corrupted in BreezeBrowser.

I have become a believer in the Canon RAW file format. I like the capability to modify white balance and other parameters outside the camera after shooting. I generally batch convert all the files using the "as shot" option, then go back through them, deleting the bad ones. Then I tweak those that need some help in the areas of white balance, saturation, etc. and re-convert those individually to JPGs. Once I finish those steps, I move the pictures to another folder where I can work on them with Photoshop. I then archive the original CRAW files to a separate directory which I burn to a CDROM when I have collected enough to fill a disk.

I really appreciate everyone's comments. I also tried uninstalling and installing the software again, but that did not work. I don't know if the problem is related to a driver issue. Although I would like to continue using ZoomBrowser, I looks like you are no longer being able to use it back again after this situation.
