I have seen some people that seem as if they are on Canon's payroll, I just don't get it. You can prefer Canon but like other brands as well. I see this all the time on gaming forums, people are labeled "fanboys" that are hardcore for X product/game/system etc. I like Canon more than all but that doesn't mean I have to disregard everything else, it is childish.

How far will this thread get before someone tells you to go buy a Nikon then?

If you complain about Canon niggles and design decisions too much someone will usually urge you to change systems. Apparently if you want to own Canon gear you must have fawning Canon deference.

I care about Canon just about as much as they care about me...
It's convenient for *me* (at the moment) to use Canon gear, things can change. I'm not planning a change but I really don't have *any* loyalty to a company at all.

I'm not, I use some Sigma lenses and would love to get my hands on a D300/700 but the 400D offered the best price/performance for my budget.

Canon 500D - Sigma 30mm f1.4 -Canon 85mm f1.8 - Tamron 90mm f2.8 - Canon 50mm f1.8 - Sigma 10-20mm - Redsnapper Tripod

I'm about what works. If it works then it's good and if it doesn't it's not worth my time. I also have no desire to convince people to allegiances, one way or another. Just want them to be happy with how they spend their money.

Life is full of compromises. We use Canon because the compromises we had to make were ones we found acceptable. Nikon would have required other compromises, which we found unacceptable for us. For someone else, the reverse may be true.

For example, I think the Foveon sensor is the way to go, but if we had gone with the Sigma SD10, we would have been locked into Sigma-only glass. This was not an acceptable compromise.

With our 20D and 30D, we can use Canon glass, or Sigma, or Tamron, or Tokina. In fact, one of my wife's favorite lenses is a Sigma (the 150mm macro). By getting the Canon bodies, fewer compromises were made.

To say, however, that Canon is the end-all and be-all is purest BS. Each brand has its own advantages and its own disadvantages. The hardware purists lose sight of the fact that the object is to take pictures, not to own gear. One should use whatever equipment serves that end best for that individual.

I use what fits my needs...I've tried other brands, but for one reason or another they don't work for me. If the day comes that some other brand meets my needs, then I have no problem jumping ship. Every brand out there has pros and cons, you just need to select the one that provides the most pros for your needs.

I made the decision, a number of years back, to go with Canon. The single largest reason being that, at the time, Canon's sensors were superior to anything else out there. I have always liked Nikkor glass. In fact, one of my considerations at the time was whether I could use Nikkor's lenses. I am certainly not saying that Canon does not make some very, very good lenses. Until recently Canon's sensors have been head and shoulders above Nikon's. The truth is that if I were choosing a system now Nikon may well be my choice. This is due to the introduction of the D3 and D700. However, no matter which system I had/have, I would prefer, as a general rule, that system's brand of lenses and flashes. I am way, way too comitted money wise to consider changing to a different system. I'm happy with the choice I made and still am.

When all is said and done......if you were to look at 2 images side by side, I doubt anyone could tell whether one was shot with a Nikon, and the other with a Canon, or whatever.

I do know that it would be immediately recognizable who was the better photographer.

Bohdan - I may be, and probably am, completely wrong.

No one told me this!!

Personally, I feel have always been outspoken in providing my own opinions on where Canon can improve there equipment from pretty early on. (whether anyone else cares or not)
I would even go so far as to suggest, (perhaps over egotistically ) that Canon often has listened and has granted some of these wishes formed on this very forum.

Therefore I would plead, Please, never stop asking for more.

Also, everyone makes something better than others. We talk about other lenses, flashes etc.. there are plenty of niches where Canon can learn a thing or two in this market.

I think the "knee jerk fanboy" reaction of telling someone to switch to another system is usually a result of baseless or somewhat ignorant rants as opposed to someone putting some thought into pointing out where Canon has room for improvement.
As with all things in life, delivery is important, especially when dealing with a group like an All Canon Forum.

I just favor Canon. It fits in my hand the best and it just feels right and well I like it.
I did make a comment on another thread of yours that was supposed to be light hearted. It's a Canon forum so I figured it would be taken that way.
