I take no disrespect from what you said, and don't take any from my response, but...

...Uh, duh. That's not the point. Obviously your first time here, you didn't' care about the people, you cared about the info, and the info was about Canon. Then, once you get into it, and interact with the people, the people become another reason to be here, but not the main reason. Everyone finds this site for the info, and the interaction with the people comes second.

And I'm still here because it's a Canon forum. Just because the people are nice or not makes no difference to me. I come for the info, to learn, and maybe to teach. I don't come here to make friends. That's what they made Match.com and eHarmony for. Just like the astro forums I belong to. I originally went to them for information, and once I got to know the people, that became a secondary reason, to interact with people who shared the same interests that I do. Same thing here. It's a source of information, and a place to share what I like with other people who are here to do the same. The bonus is when I learn something, or get the chance to help someone else, but it's still just another source for information.

My preference would be that, if I'm here for information about Canon cameras, or Canon lenses, or third party stuff for Canon equipment, or to learn about photography as it is applied through the use of Canon equipment, then that's what I can find. I don't want to wade through threads and posts about Nikon gear, save that for a Nikon forum. And in the same respect, I wouldn't go to a Nikon forum to learn about Canon equipment. I've seen too many forums lose there respectability and there structure by allowing too much extra business to go on. Keep it simple.

So, as I said before, Nikon, take a Hike On.

Edit: My apologies to Nikon people, I mean no offense. But you do have to realize that the main purpose of this forum is to talk Canon, or it wouldn't say Canon at the top.

i don't think you understand how many Nikon owners are here and how many times you see their posts and images and don't even realize it. hell, one of the most helpful member that we have on POTN if a Nikon user and he is always helping people with lighting gear. i don't know about you but i wouldn't want to lose this knowledge just because he doesn't use a Canon. also, we are talking about a separate section here for Nikon which means that if you don't want to read about Nikon or talk to people that use Nikon, you can simply take a hike and move on..

I know full well that I can avoid a separate section, and I know full well that there are Nikon users here. But, even you have to admit that the main reason you are here is because of the specificity to Canon equipment. I know that the forum is based on photography as a whole, and not totally about Canon, but most users come here for the Canon discussions.

I'm not one to jump into the Canon-v-Nikon baloney, my posts were meant in seriousness, but with a little jesting too. So don't fly off the handle. It's all in good fun. I really don't give a **** what equipment people use, I prefer to learn what I can where I can. And I see tons of threads about Nikon. Don't care, just walk passed them. I'm just concerned with the fact that the forum can easily take a turn for the worse by allowing more and more "x,y,z," specific headings to appear. I've seen it dozens of times on other forums, and it ends up alienating the people who have the true desire to be in the forums.

And to that, I will shut up. I wasn't planning to make anybody mad, but hey, opinions are like (you know what), everyone has one. I'll go away now, and let you guys have your one-sided conversation.

I wouldn't mind it...Some people are so closed minded when it comes to these things. Fanboys of either brand don't do anybody any good... There are fantastic Canon's out there...and fantastic Nikon's...to say that all Nikons suck is just ignorant...

I think poeple need to give credit where credit is due! :D

Reminder: The forum here is a photography forum. Only the Equipment Talk section is specific to Canon, the rest of the forum is free for anyone using any equipment to share their work, to ask questions, to give advice and to be fully-rounded members of our community.

We are not elitist here, we are not exclusive to Canon, neither are we exclusionists of any other brand.

We are united in photography, and our community spirit.

Leave it to a mod to ruin all the fun.

Regardless of what people think, it's pretty Canon-centric here and I would leave it that way unless you have a complete mirror site with all the sub forums and what not.
Yes the people are good, yes we're all united etc. etc. But that's not really the point you know. People come/came here to get information on a Canon camera and to add Nikon to the fold without massive restruction would only muddy the waters.

Hi Guys
I am a Nikon user to date, but love to come to this forum to learn about Canon. At our Nikon site (WWW.Nikonians.org (external link)) we have a forum for other camera's which include
Canon. Even if you are a canon user, you should check out the Nikon site as I think you would be impressed on how it's laid out. It's free to join.

Not exactly free if you're required to own or plan to own a Nikon camera before you can register there. :|
I know of one person who was actually asked to leave that forum because he had registered when he didn't own or didn't plan to own a Nikon camera.

Below is a snippet from their forum rules page.

4.2. Anyone who owns or plans to buy Nikon photography equipment may register at Nikonians, i.e. if you do not own and do not plan to buy Nikon equipment, you must not register.

POTN has no affiliation with canon.

Wow! Have there been attempts to get Canon sponsor this site?

Well, but who likes having a boss? Maybe that's not a good idea after all.

I don't know where you got your information that you had to have a Nikon camera to join Nikonian as I did and they never asked what camera I had. It's a great place to go to learn about Nikon camera's and just basically to venture into the other side. We can always learn from each forum.
