'68 Cuda Super Stock 426

More from the Dream Cruise...
You could buy one of these from Chrysler for $4,800! Mike's '68 Cuda Super Stock clone would have come with a 426 hemi that put out 550bhp to a auto 3-speed trans pushing a 4.88 Dana 60 rear end.

When they were sold, they came w/out paint, heater, outside mirrors (who needs them?), rear seat, or radio. Then Hurst added glass fenders & hood.

He's had it for 3 years & spent 2 years building it & expects to drive it 500 miles a year.
ET is 10.90 sec @ 123 mph.

I had a 69 "Cuda" back in 69. We used to race almost every night up and down Telegraph Rd outside of Detroit. Mine was British racing green and had a 383 Magnum in it. What fun.

These were the best looking Mopars ever made, with the 68-70 Chargers a close second! :D

Me too! 383, not Magnum, Formula S, 4-speed. Mine was what I called "Cop-catcher RED". :D

You have excellent taste & I agree, but I'm biased? I saw the '70s when we shot a prototype in the studio & immediately ordered my '69.

Thanks for the comments!

Some interesting comments, especially re the 70 body styles. I ordered a 69 Swinger 340 4 speed because every friend I had was in either a Camaro or Chevelle. Now I make my living restoring the Camaros & Corvettes of the era, and have a bit of a "holy'er than thou" attitude re the "tribute" or "clone" cars that people build for whatever reason. Why not just say they built what they wished they could have bought? Or what they thought was the ultimate etc? We called it "hot rodding" but now it's a 'tribute" car. My personal favourite from the era is the 67 GTX, but I have many other bodies that raise my blood pressure when I see a nice one, and a Hemi anything fits in there too, even more than the car my license plate & screen name comes from, my legit Cast Iron COPO Camaro. That's where cicopo comes from, and I owned it for many years but sold it a while back to build a big shop to store my other cars & work in as needed. Anyone can fake a car, but the owner of that one was honest enough to admit it wasn't legit. NICE PHOTOS that I do enjoy looking at.

Good points. I liked a lot of cars from back then, especially the sexy lines of the Chargers & Camaros, & the muscly look of the GTX & 'Stangs, but I only lust for a very few.

cars that people build for whatever reason. Why not just say they built what they wished they could have bought? Or what they thought was the ultimate etc?

There's a third reason that I ascribe to the guys driving the Pacers & Gremlins. I suspect that they had their first "interactive experience" in them? :D

Did you by any chance get a shot of the interior showing the door or quarter trim. Memory says the Hemi Darts & Cudas had plexi side windows and just a strap to raise the glass; no window regulators or crank handles. A good recreation would need to have that look to get my approval. Over the years there has been so many ideas re "tribute cars" but knowing just how many people have faked something into a higher level car that they eventually try to sell as whatever they built it's still buyer beware all too often. SS badges were mighty big sellers when the resurgance of the muscle cars came on in the mid 80's. So were Z - 28 emblems, and how many Le Mans bodies got a GTO make over in order to raise their value.

Pretty hard to pass a clone off nowdays, they only made 72 darts and 68 cudas. Thats a fairly decent clone though.

Nice shots, I'd paint it though. FYI, the current NHRA SS/AH record was just reset last month by Charlie Wescott's '68 Cuda, 8.38 @ 157mph!!

No. What you see here is what I got.

Charlie Wescott's '68 Cuda

He's from Michigan & is my SS/AA hero. He was beat out here (external link) by Harry Holton from Modesto, CA in another '68 Cuda, @ 8.688
