I thought the end result looked pretty cool, so I'll post it.
Seems there was a thread awhile back that included archery that rekindled the "Bug" for me, so I bought a compound bow from ebay. Now I know why He sold it. It seems the Bow was not in tune, and the sights were way off. (That's my story, and I'm sticking to it.) My back up back stop is a solid grout block wall.

took me a while to get it, but you're right, it is a cool end result... the trajectory must have been damn straight to do that

Looks like some sort of special hunting round,. designed to "mushroom" like a bullet

That's just plain COOL!

Thanks Guys, I now have three bows. One is a takedown recurve(easy to shoot), one is a 45-65 LBS compound(A little harder to shoot, but still not bad), and the third that I shot this with is a 70 Bear Superstrike XLR, that I have to really grunt to pull. The other two will sink the 31" shafts anywhere from half to up to the fletchings. I found that the Superstrike will launch the shaft consistantly straight through the tightly packed bale of straw.
These shots of my dearly departed arrow is the result of missing the bale (but not the wall), hence, embarrasing.

Another angle of now dead arrow.

ROFLOL!

Ill have to show these to the g/f she's quite into her archary, has a nice compound thats perfect for her, but a tad light for me.

Iv put a few of her arrows into trees, and we lost a couple at a mates farm, but never anything like that!
note, one of the arrows we lost at the farm, was found several months later by a cow, who tried to eat it.

She's shooting into bales of nappies (not used, production overruns, faults etc). Apprently they are better for the arrows than straw, the only problem is if your useing very high velocity arrows, they tend to melt the nylon in the nappies which sticks to the arrow shaft.

Moppie, WOW! Thanks for posting this. Looks like She's shooting a single cam compound at about 20 yards? NICE Shot! Pun intended. ;)
Let me know what She says when She see's this. :D

I have bent arrows, broken the tips off arrows, snapped them in two, but this is a first for me as well. I've never seen this happen before either. As Littlenose has pointed out, the arrow had to be very stable as well as perfectly perpendicular to the wall to drive the field tip that far back into the arrow.

The good news is ... an arrow has to be flying true (off target perhaps, but true) in order to hit so squarely that it peels back like that. I've seen that many times at local 3D shoots ... some of them have an "iron buck" (metal deer silhouette with a small round hole in the vitals area). Big points if you make the shot ... an arrow like yours if you don't. My carbon fiber arrows don't react quite the same, however ... they pretty much just shatter.

More like it USED to fly true.
Curious now, what sort of range, and how big is the target/hole you are referring to? Sounds like fun. :D

The overall target is pretty close to deer lifesize. The hole for the "vitals" is probably about 5 inches diameter. Range is about 25 yards. It's usually the last target out of 30 in one of these shoots. Sometimes it's optional ... they'll have a standard foam deer target available for those who don't want to risk their arrows.

No problem at all! As much as I would love to try archery, I really don't have the space to do it. The closest club is probably 40 miles away or more...and I think they are a majority of bowhunters not target archers. So, all that said, I still haven't been able to try Archery...bummer :(

Thanks Jay, Maybe with a little more practice, I can do that too. I warm up at 10 yards, then if I'm feeling good about it I move to 20 yards. I'm still learning though.

Are there any "Pro" shops in your area with an indoor range? I hope you get to try it. Archery can be addicting. ;)
