I am ready to go ahead and buy a lighting kit, and it seems with the sale, now is the time. I am going to buy the Genesis 200 2 light kit

You can see in my signature what I have. To get these working out of the box, what else should I buy? Other than that, are there things I am really going to want. This is just for a little basement studio for my baby.

Thanks
Stefan

I just bought a set a few hours ago after I came across a bunch of good reviews. Anyhow, to answer your question, are you planning to trigger this optically, wired or wireless?

I wasn't 100% sure of what to buy for a wired connection, so I ended up going wireless. I already had 1 ebay receiver/transmitter, so I just bought 2 more receivers. Hopefully they will be reliable.

You did not have to. First of all the wired connection you were not sure about is already included in the kit. Secondly since you already have a pair of wireless trigger you could just use it for one light and set others to slave mode. ( of course if you do not plan to use the lights at places where other phtographers use speedlights )

Oh well, I bought the receivers so that's what I will do. So I guess I will just have 2 ways to do it.

i use mine with Cactus V2s's. you techically only need 1 transmitter and 1 receiver, even if you have 2 lights. the genesis's have photocells, so as long as one goes off, the other will as well. i did, however, pick up a second receiver to hook up to my 580EX.

the genesis lights come with a pc to 1/8" sync cord. you can plug the pc end into the cactus receiver, and the 1/8" end into the strobe itself. they really work great, and i've done about 15 shoots now with them and have only had 1 or 2 misfires. the cactuses don't play well with wireless triggers, as an FYI.

i love these lights. they're not 100% consistent every time, but for the most part, i think for what you pay, they're the best bang-for-your-buck lights around.
you can also pick up amvona softboxes real cheap to use with these guys. a little macguyver-ing is required, but boy do they work. i have an amvona octabank and a brolly-style umbrella from them. both for under $100.
