Hello. I'm looking for a place that offers really cheap prices for 4x6's (I don't care about other sizes, just 4x6's). The quality must be really good though. I have been ordering from WHCC at the cost of .27 cents each. That gets expensive when you are ordering hundreds of prints at a time (wedding proofs). So, I am trying to cut some corners (if I can) while still getting great quality.

So far, I have found this site (pephoto.com). Please tell me your thoughts.

It says 6 cents each. If the quality if really good, I will jump on this deal!
Thanks for your help and advice.

Mpix.com offers 4x6 prints @ 19 cents each and the quality is really quite high.

I use this service for friends and family and highly recommend them.

I've used PE Photo. The quality isn't bad, but you really need to watch your color temperature. If it's just a little too warm, the pictures come out all orange-y. The only issue I had with them was that they didn't package all of my order, and I was missing a bunch of stuff. But they rushed the missing stuff to me, and gave me a bit of a refund. I still use them every once in a while when I get an order for a ton of 4x6s or 5x7s, cuz you simply can't beat that price! And I've held up a PE Photo 8x10 to an 8x10 from my local lab, and I can't really tell the difference.

Winkflash isn't bad, if you're not planning on giving prints to customers. Winkflash actually prints their name and website on the back of their prints. So, if you don't want your customers to know they just paid $XX.XX for an $.08 4x6, then go right ahead.

Costco is 15cents.
Adriane your customer isn't paying for the print they're paying for the quality and level of service you provide. Unless they live on Mars they know that it cost less the 20cents these days to print a 4x6. What you charge $5 for is for taking the photo, finishing the photo and for providing an excellent experience to them. So whether it says winkflash or costco on the back only matters from a branding perspective as long as the final product is great quality.

Chrisvl, I agree with you on that, but I'm just looking at it from a customer's standpoint. If I paid $20 for a 4x6, I would really rather not want to know the profit margin the photographer takes from that. So when my clients ask what lab I go thru, I just tell them what state they're in. I personally would be pretty ticked off if I paid a ton of money for professional prints and realized they came from costco, simply because anyone can get prints from them. So in my mind as a customer, I wouldn't be expecting prints from costco, but from some fabulous lab somewhere that only professional photographers can use. Do you get what I'm saying? I am not saying costco has poor quality prints, it's just the concept of having them printed at a local retail store just throws me off.

Don't want to hijack this thread but like I said they know unless they're living on Mars. Anyone can get prints from them but can anyone take the photograph you just did?
Ask yourself why are they hiring you?

You're right, you're fighting with me over my personal opinion. Let's get back on topic.

I have a batch of winkflash prints sitting in my desk drawer. They're actually very nice prints, and had they not had winkflash printed on the back, I would have given them to the customer they belonged to. Obviously I had them reprinted by PEPhoto, and the prints were just as great. Couldn't tell the difference between the two, other than the printing on the back. I wasn't aware that they printed their name, which is why I told Ralpho that they did such a thing, in case he wasn't aware. PePhoto only prints the file name and the quantity ordered of that image in that size. As for costco, I've never used them, so I don't know what's on the back.

We're all here to help each other, I'm just posting what info I possess to help someone else out in the future. I know I was pretty ticked when I saw the backs, I don't want any one else to freak out like I did!

Hey Adriane not fighting. Trust me I would prefer that it not be there but it's not a deterrent.
Most of my stuff is printed from Exposure Manager where my galleries are hosted and the backs are branded with my branding.
But I also use Costco when I have to do stuff locally. They print Costco on the back as well.
I know a few Wedding shooters who do great work and use Costco for the prints.

LOL! Just noticed your signature.

Cheers,
It's all good mate.

chris is right costco is great, fast, pro equipment and you can have them turn off both back printing and color correction so if you use there icc profiles (which you can download at drycreek.com) your pictures will look like YOUR pictures.

And exposuremanager is also great use them myself here check them out http://www.exposuremanager.com/aff/hammerphotos (external link) but the prints are more than costco they are .29 each.

EM only prints your stuff if your galleries are hosted there. $99/yr with a 30 day reprint/money back guarantee or something like that. Only had to use it once and these guys rock with their customer service. opp I think it's 19 cents.

I do all my Costco printing in the store. I've built up a great relationship with the people that work there. I never have to wait the 1hr. usually 20 minutes unless they're really busy so I forgot that you can turn that back printing off. I'll have to go check the last set that I did now to see what's o the back. LOL! I don't usually look a the back.
