Unless you've been visiting a different planet recently, you'll be aware that VAT has been reduced from 17.5% to 15% as from today.

So ... if you're VAT registered, are you passing that on to your customers?

At LensesForHire, we are. It's a real pain, to be honest. We've always believed in transparent pricing, and since most of our customers will pay VAT it follows that we show our prices as including VAT. And therefore the VAT change doesn't happen automatically, but we have to change the prices on the web site. That's a lot of work. It would have been very easy to just sit back and make an extra 2.5% profit, and I can't deny it was tempting, but ... do unto others, as they say.

So, we're doing our bit to stimulate the economy. Are you?

good to see your not taking advantage but seriously 2.5% is not going to stimulate a flea let alone the economy.

Well, since most of clients are newspapers I'm not sure...I think i'd prefer the option to retain the extra 2.5% from some.

However, it's not something that i've thought about since most of the sales i make these days are through an agency.

But, I will be taking advantage of the price reductions all around.

James.

Ordered a new lens from Calumet on Saturday- automated web order says Total Cost £654.72 / Sales Tax £100.67.
Got a confirmation email today- its still £654.72, but now the tax is only £85.40.
Looks like they are claiming only the 15%, but have put the base price up to compensate.
I'm not too bothered as I got a good price to start with. But I'm phoning now to see if I can re claim the £15 difference

update: apparently web prices were changed on Friday, but the invoicing system was'nt updated. Still happy with the price tho- eagerly waiting for a new 24-105f4
