Ok, I never really understood why people made these threads, and to be honest they really bugged me until I bought myself a new camera :) Now I understand :p

I almost settled for another crop camera 40D/50D, but I want to see what this FF goodness is about.

I am so excited! And so broke at the same time... haha.

Hopefully my 50mm and my 70-200 2.8 will hold me over until I can find a wide angle -.-

Ramen diet here I come!

The 50 is just fine on the 5D...like how cameras were in "standard configuration" for decades...

welcome ;) i'm still waiting for mine to arrive.

CF cards are usually up to you, i rather carry a bunch of small (2gb) cards than a single large one. Trying to not keep all my eggs in a single basket just in case a card corrupts on me.

Congrats dude.

Think about some 4Gb cards. I use the Extreme III's and 4gb just seems more suitable. 2Gb cards fill up kind of quick when handling RAW's.

I'd like to hear more from you guys who recently went from a crop camera to a used 5D classic. This is what I'm trying to do but I'm not convinced if the IQ improvement will worth the extra ~$700 (given I could sell my 30D for $500 and I can score a used 5D for $1200).
Also would the sigma 50mm prime worth the extra money over the canon 50 f/1.4 on a 5D?

cvt,

I recently made the move, but if you're expecting night and day difference, it will not be there. The 5D is amazing to me at how nicely it can shoot at ISO 1600, and I look at it as having essentially helping have brought and extra stop to my lenses. That being said, the 30D and other bodies can all produce amazing images. For me, and for what I shoot most, portraits, the 5D has been a fantastic tool. I kept my 40D for other things though. The 40D has a much larger buffer, higher FPS rate, etc.

Name is Peter and here is my gear:
Canon 5D II, Canon 7D, Canon 40D
Glass - Zeiss 21 f/2.8 ZE, Canon 35 f/1.4L, Canon 40 f/2.8 STM, Canon 24-70 f/2.8
