Picked up my second Mark III and it performs just as good as my first one. Traded a 24-70 and 85 1.2 for it so I think it was a great deal.

C&C welcome!

So how did you use your second body to catch the same shot at different angles.
#1 and #3 look like the same shot. These are damn nice Matt. I really need to get a second body after the holidays.

Ya, the poor defense saw a lot of the same thing all afternoon.

Having a second body that is similar to the main is priceless in my mind, when the deep fade comes right at you being able to switch cameras in mid air is worth the upgrade. I had a 40D for a while but missed too many shots switching. Maybe others can do that but I am so used to the 1D and it was hard...

My C&C is to come back when you need to learn something!!

I really appreciate the nice comments. I have worked very hard this year to learn what it takes to cover HS football. I look forward to learning more but its nice to hear Im moving towards my goals.

Love it, I really need to pick up a 300mm 2.8 IS.

I'm assuming it would be a stupid question for me to ask you if you like the lens? :)

I think you're being overly modest....I'm no photography expert but from a football appreciation standpoint your last two submissions have been outstanding!

Thanks again but I know I have more to learn, one of the best things about my first season is I was able to chat with some established pros in my area that work for major media outlets. There is so much more to it than getting a "great" image, and for that I really have a ways to go.

When I get my first cover on a major newspaper or magazine I will stop asking for critique. :) So expect to see more for a good while....

And yes I love the 300, as long as you have good field access I prefer it over the 400. For college and pro level I think the 400 would prove more useful as I assume your ability to move around is much more limited. I will let you know if I ever get a chance at the next level. For now I can only hope my local team keeps winning so I get more practice and exposure.

Hey Matt, did you have a MII before the MIII. I was going to pick up a MIII after the holidays and I was wondering how switching back and forth is with the two.

I talked to a guy at a big cycling race last year who had a MIII with a 300 and a Nikon D3 with a mid zoom as a second body. He said it wasn't easy but he is getting used to it.

No, I was using a 40D ...really hard for me to switch because 95% of my pictures were taken with Mark III so when I needed to grab the 40D fast I found it to be an issue.

I would think switching between two similar 1d's would be a non issue. I think the mian thing I would miss is the set button in the middle of the Mark3's dial. I typically have that set for ISO and its SO easy to adjust. Also not sure if the 1D2n has the little toggle button which can move the focus points on the fly.

so as a "poor amature" at best I have to ask what will be thought of as a stupid question...

How much better is the Mark III over the 40D? I know its not readily quantifiable, but how much better is it in your mind? And how is it better?

The reason I ask is that I am saving up for a Mark III and plan on giving my old 30D to my daughter for her HS photog class next year. I like shooting sports best and know it will be an big jump in quality over my 30D, but was wondering how much better you like it over the 40D.

40D v Mark III - Well the best answer- it IS worth the price difference, which has to be the real question for most folks

I noticed a major difference in focus speed especially in low light. The IQ is noticebly better (again especially in low light) I have two of them because a major part of my business is low light photography and in that scenario it is the best camera. If you always shoot in good light the difference may not be as significant.

Add in the additional custom functions, Microfocus adjustments, professional feel, weather sealing and such and you cant go wrong IMO

Also the battery life is crazy....10,000 pics on one battery :)
