I have a brand new 5D Mkii. I am seriously flabbergasted by the image quality. Many have spoken of its seemingly "3D" effect in certain situations. Now I believe it:

QUOTED IMAGE
Taken in Hamilton, New Zealand, last night. Image unprocessed jpeg except for re-sizing.

awsomeeee .....

What's the best settings for low light, handheld shooting? Like the evening shot above of the guy on the street, or indoors? Or the in-car shots. I'm finding that at the shutter speeds end up too slow for hand held, and my images are blurry in low light. I see some tack sharp images here from low light situations, and would love some tips.

Mostly referring to using the 24-105L at f5.6 or so.

You may have to up the ISO. Don't be afraid to try 6400.

And try to see if you can find any support for the camera. Maybe a light post or similar to create yourself a temporary tripod, allowing really long shutter times.

Thank you. I'll try both. I didn't know how grainy the 6400 ISO got. I love the clarity of the street picture above, and would like to learn how to correctly get similar shots.

u still need to put it on tripod unless u can hand held it at 1/6 to 1/10 sec with superb steadiness. Else tripod. switch to iso 100 f16 bulb 1-3 sec for a start on tripod and cable release. u will get crisp nice shot. i presume u should know it since u hv beautifuls photos in your gallery esp your vegas baby shot. nice one..

You can also set the mode to Tv at say 1/50th sec for a 50mm shot and set the ISO to Auto. This will allow it use a lower ISO if there is enough light.

Thanks for the compliment. I'll try that too.

I used TV a lot the other day, while shooting my dogs in the snow. I'll try it out in low light too.

Thanks guys.
