whats funny is that I have always been the guy behind the camera shooting friends and what not... Whether it was a video camera taping a friend doing flips on the trampoline or snowboarding, or now whether it is me shooting my own family portrait and not getting in the photo or anything along those lines... My avatar is the closest you will see me in a photo

Yeah, gotta loves those thousands of pictures and only a few of yourself, and none taken by yourself.

I loathe having my picture taken...

I bought my first dSLR last year when I was 25. I used it constantly for a little while, but it fell by the wayside once I bought a Vespa. I found the two hobbies competed too much... nice days went to riding.

Now I've sold my Vespa (I'm done with two-wheeled motorized vehicles forever) so my attention's back on photography in full force.

I have been "into" photography since I was about 10 or 11. I remember shooting 110 film then moving on to a Pentax IQZoom. Man, I thought that thing was awesome! (too bad it got stolen on my last day of 6th grade hahaha) So, since Im 24, I guess I have been into it for 14 or so years...I still suck though hahahaha. Below you will see my camera progression:

Random 110 cameras

Pentax IQ Zoom (400 model I think)

Pentax SLR (dont rember the model) -

EOS Elan 7 (first camera I "LOVED" I can vividly remember the first time I loaded that thing with 1600 speed film to shoot a baseball game, wow. Grain CITY, but stopping the bat mid swing for the first time...I was hooked!) -

XTi -

40D

Anyone else care to share their camera progression?

I was probably somewhere around 10~11. I borrowed my dads camera to start and finally saved up enough for this guy. This is my first purchased body. I was maybe 12~13 when I bought it.

Why?

Guess that was a pretty broad brush. I loathe posing for pictures. You know, the group family types. My Mom is queen of the "hold up your gift and smile" type shoots. Drives me nuts, always has.

I don't mind candid shots of myself, but I'd still rather be behind the lens.

I got "into" photography as a sometime-thing when I was about 12 years old. I didn't learn much, but I was taking school yearbook photos with a Speed Graphic back then.

When I was 18 and in the US Army, stationed in England in 1965, I really got into photography big-time. I worked with my first "serious" camera (a Miranda F SLR), did all my own B&W processing, and learned a lot. Two years later I "graduated" to a pair of Nikon F's which I still own.

It's been a continuous learning process while having fun and occasionally making a buck here and there with photography ever since. I've never had photography be my main source of income, but after I retire from my day job - who knows what could happen?
