If everything goes well in the next few months, I might be looking into getting a FF camera for some weddings.... I'll still keep my 40D.

5D, 5DII, 1DII, 1DsII, or 1DIII? I know I wont be looking for 1DsIII. Just wondering!

Thanks!

The 1DII and 1DIII are 1.3x crops. Imho, you can't really go wrong with any of them. How do you rank your priorities: ISO performance, AF, and price?

Drew put it well, any could do the job without concern. What is your main focal priority? That will help dictate which would be the best fit.

Perhaps you should buy some lenses first?
You have nothing between 30mm and 70mm that you could use on full frame..

What we see depends mainly on what we look for.

Get the 5D2 if I were you, and build the the lenses collection later. 5D2 should works well with your Sigma 70-200 right now. If tight budget get some cheaper primes between 24 to 85mm then you're all set. Your 40D will be very lonely after you get the FF.
Good luck and keep shooting

Not everyone has the $5000+ it would cost for a 5D2 and a couple of L lenses. If the OP just wants to dabble in full frame a 5D classic and something like the 28-90mm would be a much less expensive alternative. I expect to see the 5D classic price drop like a rock and I may grab one if they get within my comfort zone.

The 5D price dropped like a rock when the 5D II was announced; I doubt it will go much lower until yet another update comes along. It also has a very good reputation, which may help keep prices up. New may drop to about $1500-$1700, used may go as low as $1k...but I've already seen a few go for that.

I've seen refurbs under $1300 the last couple of days. I'm watching them closely and if I find one that I can get for a net of $1000 or so I may grab it. Ebay is flooded with them right now.

Don't think we have any brand new 5D's left for sale in this country. Once discounting started stock disappeared very very quickly.

Best Buy still sells them in the US, but you'd have to be crazy to buy at their prices. ;)

I had Sigma 24-70 f/2.8 before, sold it and got 17-55 IS. Once I go FF, I'll trade my 17-55 for 24-70L. I don't really care much for UWL, it's nice to have for landscapes, but I can live without it for a while.

I think my priority would be AF/ISO/Price in that order.

As far as budget goes, I don't really have one... I'll come up with the money for the things I need. It would be nice to have the latest technologies (like 5DII) but I aslo like the feel and look of the 1D body.

Thanks for all your replies!

Well, I guess you have your answer. If that is the camera that appeals to you, then that is what you should get.

On the other hand, you can get a 5D with a grip and get the same ergonomics. Same with the 5D Mk II. Me, I'm a pixel junkie. I frequently crop out a piece of animags, so the more pixels there are to start, then the more pixels I have in my crop. But that's just me.

Cheers
