This game is to help those of us who are trying to learn new tricks when it comes to editing.

Here's the breakdown of the game. I will post a picture that I choose, resized to exactly 1024 pixels maximum on the long side. Outside of being resized it has to be unedited...meaning no adjustments to any levels, it has to look like it did as it came out of the camera.

The game will last 48hrs and whoever can produce the best edited image (as judged by me) will be picked and it'll be their turn to post their unedited picture for all of us to take a crack at.

The participants must have their "Image Editing OK" turned on and they must provide at least a simple breakdown of how they edited the image, some entrants are a little vague on this point, please give us all details so we can learn and share tips. For instance if you use the unsharp mask tool or Smart Sharpen, provide us with the adjustments you used so others can try them out.

You can post multiple images, but the first image you post will be the one that is judged - all other images will be considered for knowledge and tip use only.

Also, please keep all comments, be they positive or negative, to yourself until after the game has ended.

If you happen to be the winner of the game please start the next one with the title of the game and the following number. For example…the next game should read "Before & After #137".

This is all about having fun so have at it!!!
Any edit, over-the-top creative or subtle, is encouraged!

This game will end on Thursday, December 4th at 9:00pm (Mountain).

I'm scraping the bottom of the photo barrel here. I need to get out and take more pictures!

Just something simple since I went a little crazy with the last butterfly...

Crop
Changed the hue of background and butterfly
Cloned so the antennae, tongue, and feet weren't hidden
Boosted the contrast
Darkened some of the shadows, lightened some highlights on the wings

crop.

hue/sat on one layer.. and only left pink in the wings.
then in another layer.. i did purple, and only left it in the body. i lowered the opacity to about 65% on both layers. ( i was feeling girly today)
then on a new copy, i filter/other/highpass and 2.0 blnd modes was overlay to sharpen. then with a white brush painted the shrpness away from the butterfly and made the flowers normal looking again ( i wanted the butterfly to have all the attention.

then burned in around the edges a bit till i felt like it looked the way i wanted it to look.

All great work! This was a hard decision. I never would've thought about the color changes...but the blue background, red flowers and the purple butterfly look very cool! Tracey, the way you darkened parts of the photo really made the yellow stand out! Is that the midnight filter?

In the end, it was between Squip and lhos. I really liked how you cropped the photo, Squip, to keep the sharpest petals/leaves and how you were able to pull some green out of all that yellow. Lhos, I thought your crop really brought the attention onto the butterfly and the cloning job is great.

I'm going to go with...Squip. I think the crispness and brightness of your edit won me over.

Thanks everybody! You're up, Squip!

Congrats Squip. Great edit.

Suzyb- Yeah the darkened parts we from the midnight filter but the yellow was that and the added saturation to the photo.
