Excellent!

Have fun with it and try not to get too attached to the build, feel and focusing system because they're all extremely addictive!

Cheers!

I am in the same situation as some of you are try to decide what to buy 1Ds MKII, 5DMK2, or 1DMKIII not the DS model. I shot concert and portrait mostly and I am thinking about getting into weddings. I like the 1Ds MKII for the full frame (because I want a FF body), AF, speed and size. I torn between the technology because the 5d and 1D MKII has the new chip. But the 1D MKII is only 10mp. I can get by with any camera that has anywhere between 10mp and 15. What would you guys suggest? I currently have a 30D, 50D with 85L, Tammy 70-200 f2.8, 30 1.4 and 50 1.8.

Wooo the 1ds2 body feels different than my 5d2. AF felt so much more confident and the shutter just feels so quick. I never understood why people complained about 5d2's blackout period... now I know.

I do miss the 5d2's screen, and I'm not crazy about the control scheme on the 1ds2 (holding menu/select to navigate menus, two-button pressing for setting iso and drive mode, etc). That's all small stuff, though.

I took this camera into Canon in NJ this morning to get the sensor and mirror cleaned. They reported it as having 650 clicks at that time. The guy behind the counter was shocked to see that number.

Now I just have to figure out how to not give this thing back. :)

First of all, 1D MarkII has only 8mp.
Second, go with 1Ds MarkIII, it has better AF, FF, new chip, weather sealed over 5DII, and it is 21mp as 5DII, the only thing that it hasn't got is video, and that high ISO less than 5DII is not a big issue.

Damn.

I'll be interested to see what you think of it vs the 5DII.

I sold my 5D2 but kept the 1Ds2. I didn't find that I wanted to use the 5D2 if both were nearby.

Sorry I did mean the 1D MkIII which is 10 mp on a 1.3 crop. 7k is not in the budget. So what would you do?

You're beginning to "sense" the intangibles of a 1D-series camera versus the xD and xxD series. The shutter response and feel (both buttons); the lower VF blackout time; the very usable outer AF points, the AI Servo performance, the balance with the larger lenses, the 100% VF, the metering, et al. I've been using SLR cameras for over twenty five years, and these attributes are very difficult things to describe. But once you get a taste of it, it will almost be impossible to go back.

The video mode, additional resolution/size of the LCD and LiveView on a 5D2 can be useful features. But IMHO, they are NOT fundamental requirements like the performance of the AF or reduced shutter lag.

Many of us made that same comparison, and well, we ended up as regulars on this thread. So that would explain what many of us did! :D

If you have the budget but you don't want to dump it this is another story.
But if you don't have that budget at all, then yes, it is really so confusing, at least i ended up with first 1D MarkIII, and after i saw how great is this camera i went to buy 1DsIII no doubt and passed 5DII, i can buy 5DII but 1DsIII closed my mind because i want t get 5Dmk2 only for video and i am not after high ISO capability at all.
