Cool cars, Cicopo!! That last one is beautiful, and the before/after pics are really neat.

And an update on the 400L... I cancelled my order at TheCameraStore, since Cicopo was kind enough to direct me to a used 400L on the FM boards. It should be here tomorrow!!

Shea, good to hear that you made the deal, and I'm looking forward to samples from it.

I just hit decent at the race track... deciding if this is the route to go..or just a new lens..?
Options:
Sell 30D+17-55f/2.8 and put towards 1Ds Mk II with 50 f/1.4

or..buy a 24L or 35L and use on my 30D with my 17-55

What are 5D mk II's running these days?

Best Regards,

Well, camera bodies do tend to come and go and good glass tends to stay in one's stable for a lot longer.

A full frame body like the ones you mentioned coupled only with a 50mm prime wouldn't be as flexible a set up as staying with your current body and getting more glass.

You have to know what kind of focal length you mostly shoot at and with your crop body, a 50mm lens is going to be roughly equivalent of using your zoom around the 35mm zoom range. Have you shot the majority of your pictures at that range with your current kit lens?

5D MkII's are going for around 2700 still and used 1DsMkII's going for closer to the 2K range.

What type of shooting do you mostly do? Landscape, people, portraits, sports? Give us a bit more background and we could probably make a more realistic recommendation.

Cheers!

I would probably look at the original 5d as I dont know sufficient about the Nikon camp to suggest a FF. from a 30d to 5dc there is a BIG difference and you can allow yourself to get some great glass. anyway that just my thought.....

I was a guest at a beautiful wedding in Oregon wine country over July 4th. I had the 135L or 35L stuck to my 1Ds II at all times. I had used the 135L on a 20D before, but the 1Ds II really makes the 135L sing!

Here are some shots:

M3Rocket,

Wow! Those shots are stunning! You really did a fantastic job of catching people in the moment rather then trying to force the moment with fake/asked for poses! And the glass used didn't hurt either! ;)

Great job!

Cheers!

I shoot around 17-40mm the most. I usually don't touch the zoom and move my feet..haha.

The type of shooting I do is mostly people stuff. I like using off camera lighting, I do some portraits and occasionally self portraits. I try to bring my camera with me everywhere though, sometimes I don't want to set up lights and I need a camera with good noise performance mated with a nice prime.

Thanks guys!

Looking at your photo stream, it actually does look like you could pull off the majority of your work with a decent 50mm prime and a full frame body.

About choosing the 1DsMkII over the 5DII, you'd have a bit of money left over to buy more or better glass and end up with a vastly superior focusing system in the bargain! True, the ISO performance won't be as good, but, you can make up for that with better glass and third part NR software.

And kudos to you on your pictures! There was some very creative, nicely executed shots I saw in there!

Cheers!

.....it's rare for me to be able to sit through a long set of photos. I looked at every one of those. You have have an excellent group of work there. Some that made me laugh, some made me smile, and many made me go, 'wow'. Good stuff, very creative compositionally and very good understanding of lighting.

Thanx for the compliments zincozinco and Ghost!

I love both the 35L and 135L. I just sold the 24-70L and got a very sharp 85L. My poor Sigmalux is going to get neglected. :(

Perhaps one of my favorite shots from the wedding is this one:
