Thanx for the compliments zincozinco and Ghost!

I love both the 35L and 135L. I just sold the 24-70L and got a very sharp 85L. My poor Sigmalux is going to get neglected. :(

Perhaps one of my favorite shots from the wedding is this one:
QUOTED IMAGE

yeah thats a keeper!! very nice

Looks good airbutchie! ;)

So, when are you going to take it out for a real test drive? Looks like you've been stuck closer to home since you got it!

And, what's you initial impressions of the camera? Do you like the feel and focus?

Cheers!

I'll be doing a "test drive" this weekend... I've got a co-ed wedding shower this Saturday... Then an e-session Sunday morning... So this weekend will be a good "test drive" for both myself and the camera...

As for my initial impressions of it, I've upgraded from a 1Dmk2 body and I'm glad to know that the controls are basically the same... The full-frame goodness is really great, as well as the feel and fast focusing... Gotta love those 45 focusing points... Hehhehehhehe... Anyhoo, I'm glad I upgraded...

Sounds good!

I didn't know you had a 1DMkII before! So the learning curve is essentially zero for you! ;)

Good luck with your weekend engagements and be sure to post a few shots here once done!

Cheers!

The pro that I bought mine from is now selling the 1Ds3 he bought, and at a very good price. Hopefully I can resist the temptation until someone else buys it because I am very happy with what I've got.
Shea, how's than new lens doing?

Thanks!

Though the sepia toning layer helped to bring out a bit more drama then was actually there in reality! ;)

Cheers!

Shots from this evening, most with the new (to me) 400 f/5.6L

The birds weren't too cooperative this evening, very little activity except for this one little marsh wren who was singing his heart out. Backlighting wasn't the greatest, but the 1DsII dealt with the tonal range like a champ, as always.

400L + 1.4X TC

A dragonfly also stopped by -- he hovered for a second and I was able to get focus on him
IMAGE: http://i169.photobucket.com/albums/u219/snwyatt/2009-07-24_19-34-05_SwanLake.jpg

There were a couple ducks around too, but nothing exciting happened. This shot is almost unbelievably sharp at 100%, and it's wide open too. I know people have raved about the sharpness of the 400 f/5.6, but I had no idea...
IMAGE: http://i169.photobucket.com/albums/u219/snwyatt/2009-07-24_20-12-36_SwanLake1.jpg

A bit of an abstracty thing, not sure if I like it yet

After the lake I went up to the top of a local "mountain" (more of a hill) to shoot the sunset. This one's with the 70-200

Back to the 400L + 1.4TC. This was my first landscape shot at 560mm!! Some of the banding in the shadows is due to JPEG artifacts, but there is definitely some in the original shot too -- I need to find a good way to get rid of it as it's very noticeable at any size larger than for web.
IMAGE: http://i169.photobucket.com/albums/u219/snwyatt/2009-07-24_20-54-59_MountTolmie.jpg

Probably my favourite shot of the evening
IMAGE: http://i169.photobucket.com/albums/u219/snwyatt/2009-07-24_20-46-40_MountTolmie.jpg

Anyway, I really like the 400L, it is crazy sharp and seems to keep that sharpness with the 1.4XTC, even wide open. AF is super fast and accurate, and with the TC AF is WAY better than my 100-400L could ever manage with a converter.

The lens itself is super light and feels really good in my hand. Most of those shots were with a tripod, but I handheld a few. I found I could get sharp shots consistently down to 1/200 of a second on the tripod, so there's room for improvement on my part, as I've rarely shot a telephoto on a tripod before, usually using a monopod or handholding less than 300mm, never mind 560mm. Should be fun to practice, I might go out tomorrow morning and look for herons on the tidal flats (wrong phase of the tide but I might get lucky...).

Shea,

Beautiful pictures, all of them!

Looks like you got a great copy of the lens and I especially loved the dragonfly capture!...simply amazing!

You mentioned that the 400L was not heavy; how much does it weigh?

Congrats on the new lens!

Cheers!
