Page 73 of the manual will explain all the focus point types but the short answer seems that the mid vertical line of AF points are cross type with f/2.8 lens or faster and the remaining are all horizontal. And the manual should be available on Canon's website.

Cheers!

Thanks Jeff. ;)

Edit...got the PDF version of the manual. :)

Here's one more, with the 15mm FE (as is the last shot I posted). ;)

I took some night pictures, just don't ask me what I was doing downtown at 4am:

IMAGE: http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3524/3897158956_18de20e5c8.jpg
IMAGE LINK: http://www.flickr.com/photos/gbaturin/3897158956/ (external link)
Exposure: 8
Aperture: f/11.0
Focal Length: 24 mm
Exposure: +0.48
ISO Speed: 250

I am not very happy with the image, I don't like colors, too much blue on the right bottom, but if I fix it, the sky turns brown.

What should I do to fix it? how to shoot night better? and what PP should be done for such scenes?

your input is very appreciated. Thanks!

^^Nice scene, for sure.

In order to tone down the blues, you can create a new layer and burn in the areas that you don't like. Otherwise, if you don't use photoshop, next time, use a filter such as a circular polarizer, but, know that that will kill some of the reflections.

Of course, there's many ways to fix it, just depends on what you are using to fix it, that's all. :)

gnnbtrn,

As Manish just suggested, there are many ways to fix that up if you have photo shop, its basically a process of masking out the areas for correction, making the color or lightness change you want to have and then blend the layers to taste.

There is a software section on the board here and some very good photo-shoppers there who could step you through the process which is fairly involved if you're not accustomed to working with Photo shop.

Your shooting setting seem decent enough but you could also try doing an evening HDR shooting approach by metering one shot for the brightest lights and an other for more of the over-all light average of the scene and them blending them with HDR software.

Or....you could could just leave the shot as is because it honestly looks pretty good. ;)

Cheers!

I finally got a chance to get out today and do some shooting!

Here's one of them...straight out of the camera, just resized for the web in DPP

^^Nice and wide. The only part that draws my eye away is the highlight, on the upper right, where the Sun meets the building. Nonetheless, very cool details and artwork. Same place as the last shot you posted, Jeff?

Thanks!

Yup! Same place only this time I got to take around 60 shots of the church from all around it. The first time out in April, I only took a few long shots of the front of the church from about 100 feet away.

I'll probably retouch it in Photoshop to straighten it out a bit. ;)

Cheers!

Sounds good, Jeff. :) Thought it looked familiar. :)

Looks like I'll have my first model session, this weekend, as long as the model doesn't flake. Should be good, now that I'm a bit used to my camera. I'll have to set up the lights at home, just to see how it all works out since I've never used them with the 1Ds2. ;)

Back to work in the morning, too, after a nice 5 days off. :(

I keep enjoying full frame. 24-70mm is perfect tool for interior portraits:
