Butch,

Awesome! What is the surface you set this on? Glass on leather?

JH

That's what it looks like to me.

jhoag got it right... Well... It's plexiglass on top of a black leather-esque fabric I picked up at my local fabric store here in SoCal (Joann's)... It was on sale (as well as other leather-esque fabrics), so I purchased black, white, and neutral gray... Thanks for the comments fellas...

:)

Shared the view with a family of beavers, and a moose. Life is good.

Nice. :)

Thanks Manish. I'm sure I'll do just fine with what I have (and will have).

I'll be sure to post some photos from both of my "new" camera bodies detailing to just how fine I am doing. ;)

OH MY GOODNESS...

I bid on a Canon 400 2.8L mk 2 "non-IS" on eBay (Adorama seller) over the weekend... MY BID WON ($1,380)... One thing, though... Focusing mechanism isn't functional... OY VEY... Only manual focusing works... Anyone know what the cost would be to get it fixed? I guess I'll be calling CPS in Irvine, CA to get an estimate... Anyhoo... Just wanted to share my "joy/anxiety" on the new acquisition...

I'm not sure there are AF parts still left around to fix it, good luck!

Butch....if Canon no longer services it, I have heard good things about this place:

.....so you might call them if need be. Hopefully they can help you sort it.

Good question... I guess anything that requires more reach... hehehehhee... With my history (300mm 4L IS, 400mm 5.6L, 500mm 4L), this glass may not stay too long in my inventory... But for the price... OY VEY...

Portraits... Perhaps... We'll see... Thanks for the suggestion...

Well, I'm crossing my fingers, toes, and eyes in hopes that CPS can work some magic to get the focusing mechanism fixed... Stay tuned!!!

Thanks for the link, George... Something to fall back on if CPS can't don anything for me... Nonetheless, it's nice have another option (or three) if need be... Thanks again....

:)

Can anyone help with personal functions?

I cant get my computer to recognise the camera properly, using firewire (XP SP3).

I keep getting the error "Cannot start device" if i look at it in the hardware manager and i dont think i have the correct canon software :(

Is there a fool proof how to guide anywhere including software and drivers (or links to) anywhere?

Would someone be able to connect their camera, enable all personal functions and save the settings to the Cf card. Then send me that saved file so i can copy the settings to my camera and enable (or disable) my personal functions?

Would be awesome if anyone could do this :)

Cheers Neil

Just joined this particular club!

Picked up a 1Ds II with 14,000 actuations at the weekend for £950 (about $1,450).

May give it a workout at the Goodwood Revival this weekend; may take my 1D II (which this is replacing) too.

Steve

Very nice Mike. Good use of the very wide. Not sure about the white balance, unless that is the warm look you saw, or prefer in this case :)

Where did you get the last shot from? Great vantage point for this.
