I hunted for one before my last wedding...but ended up with a 5d2.
I missed the build of the 1 series.

This can come in handy for landscape shooting, architectural work, especially with tilt shift lenses...(which I don't own) and probably good for doing professional head or product shots where you want repeatable positioning...Anyway, something for you guys to consider.

Just picked up a 5D, but the AF leaves more than a little to be desired... The 5D2 doesn't seem to be the camera I need, either, for the same reason.

The 5D2 doesn't seem to be the camera I need, either, for the same reason. What I really want is a Canon equivalent of the Nikon D700. There isn't one. The 1D3 probably comes closest to my needs. The 1.25 crop makes for oddball focal length ranges, one reason I'd prefer a full frame. Is the 1DsMkII at least a stop better in low light than the 40D bodies I'm using now? If you re-read though this thread, you'll find some discussion on the ISO performance at 3200 being very usable and the focus sensitivity and accuracy being in a league of its own above what the 5D series can do. You'll still need to use fast glass though to get the best performance out of the focusing system. I do a bit of this type of photography too and is one of the reasons I have a lot of fast primes.

"...The force is strong in you Luke..."heh heh I don't know about that... more models will be released, many more cameras will be made... the 1D series are well-built and should continue to last through shutter replacements and repairs as long as parts remain available. I could see a low mileage 1DS2 going for $1,000 in 2 or 3 years. ••Vancouver Wedding Photographer

Moving nephew at iso 3200 at f2 hand held so a bit underexposed, but I dont see why I would ever need more ISO at this stage. Living the life, overexposing...
