Cheers :) Whilst im missing the reach of the 7D I'm liking the results from the 1Ds2.

Nice shot!

Do you use a 1.4x teleconverter with your lens? If not, maybe that would get you the reach you miss. Yeah, you'd have to bump your ISO by a stop but the result certainly won't be any worse than using a crop camera of the same generation. The nice thing about the 1Ds2 is that, if I'm not mistaken, it will autofocus even when f/8 is as wide as it gets, so a 1.4x TC shouldn't impact the autofocus capability.

No I haven't got a TC, I might look at picking one up again. Pretty soon though they'll playing under floodlights and I'll want the f2.8! It's just for fun so not a big issue, I'm going to try to get to a local game at the weekend where I can get much closer to the action :)

On another note, I've been having trouble with my batteries and IS lenses. Basically they are fine with standard lenses but as soon as I use a lens with IS enabled the battery dies pretty quickly. If I turn the camera off and on again the battery level is back up again! I'll refresh both batteries and see how things go :)

great shot. Seems like I won't regret letting my 7d go and picking up a 1DS II. Can't wait to try out for an action shot

I was up very very early this morning to see the sunrise with a couple of flickr friends, my first real chance to use my 1Ds Mkii in anger.

Am I the only one who actually prefers the two button system on 1D series? I remember when I took delivery of my 1D2n and immediately hated it after my 40D. Lots of buyers remorse, but after a few days I much preferred it, especially in view of all the times the mode dial used to slip on the 40D, I missed shots because of that. For me the double button system on my 1D2n and 1Ds2 are definite positives!

At first I didn't like it, but it's growing on me, and especially not having a mode dial is a positive for the reasons you stated. However, I love the ease of changing the iso while composing with one button and a flick of the wheel on my 7D. I find that you need to be cognizant of your changing surrounding light and change it accordingly before you even need to take a shot.

Cheers :)

Although not only do I have battery troubles with IS lenses, I'm now getting a slight white line at times at the edge of the frame at high shutter speeds. Probably the onset of shutter failure? I knew I shouldn't have traded the 7D! :D

Time to start shopping around for repair prices. They looked reasonable when I researched before I bought the camera. but lately I have seen some silly quotes :(
